I just bought a 09 Malibu 2LT in June well June 30th to be exact, and I just saw this recall today online. The dealer said nothing about this recall when I bought the car and it seems to be driving just (I love it) but I have to say whenever I do park the car on any hill and put it into park I have noticed it roll just a bit as i release the breaks... now it does stop moving after just a few inches and I think it is due to the weight of the car 3500 pounds... Any ways do you think I should take it in and let them check it out anyways or just let it go I have only 2100KM on it that would be about 1600 miles I believe. I live in Canada... OOO also on another note does anyone know if the dealer would install tinted windows or do I need to go to a custom shop for that? http://www.lemonauto.com/complaints/gm/chevrolet_malibu.htm

Replying to: jebus05 (Jul 23, 2009 2:45 pm) And I had come across a posted internal memo that related to using the parking brake and pre-mature wear in drive train components when parking on incline and not using the parking brake. It was not deemed a defect so likely GM has done nothing about it. What happens is that when placed in Park, a finger, pin, etc. slides into one of the cogs of a large cogged wheel solidly fixed to the main output shaft of the transmission. Parts involved with this method of locking that wear are the bearings on that main shaft, differential gears and bearings, bearing and seal at drive-shaft connection, U-joints in drive shaft, etc. According to them, when placed in park on an incline, the torque placed on such components forces every bit of lubricant from the contact points and causes a dry start. This will start a wear spot that can spread. Also, a 95 Regal I had adjusted the rear calipers via the parking brake lever. Also, I choose to avoid liability in case something happens that could have been avoided or lessened by applying parking brake in an un-attended vehicle. And since I don't want a bunch of trained monkeys tearing into my vehicle unless absolutely necessary, I ALWAYS APPLY PARKING BRAKE! |
