I've got a '01 TL that's in perfect shape, albeit slightly over 100k miles. Although it's a solid car, I'm thinking about getting a used CR-V for my 16 year old daughter. For one, I like how it sits higher for a better view. Secondly, I like the fact that it has side curtains/airbags. The TL is paid off, so I'd be making payments again on the CR-V if I buy it. Any thoughts here? I know it's apples to oranges, but my main concern is safety -- and I know the CR-V is very safe. Thanks. She will be out there with an umbrella protecting the car from the rain. If you give her a car, she will just beat on it, and drive dangerously, because she has not had to earn the money to get and keep the car.   Also, higher sitting CR-v is going to be more prone to tipping over if she does a sudden maneuver, like when she looks up from texting a friend on the cell phone and realizes that there is an obstacle on the road. I bought a used 05 CR-V SE for my teen daughter in 07. It's been a great car for a teen. Excellent visibility and safety. Allready one accident, not her fault and car did has expected. Bought an 05 because I think it was the first year all safety gear was aboard. Plan on passing to next daughter as this one goes off to college in the fall. Can't think of a better car and long term it'll be hers to keep so she can start her career after college. Another reason to buy a Honda shouldn't be a problem driving an 8 year old car when she graduates. Bought a set of snow tires through the Tire Rack for the winter, living in NH.
