Comparison Test: 2010 Ford Taurus vs. 2009 Honda Accord - Officially, the 2010 Ford Taurus and 2009 Honda Accord each seat five. Realistically, neither of these large sedans will ever see more than four passengers. And nobody will so much as rub an elbow, shoulder, buttock or knee during the 15-minute drive to the sushi buffet. (more)

Hello. We at Honda look to make sure that we instill just enough road noise to make you wonder why the hell we don't do anything about our road noise. Pilot, Accord, Civic, Insight & Fit owners will enjoy the lack of sound insulation from noisy tires we provide...now...open the back window and feel the deafening, low frequency wind buffeting your ear drums....ahhhhhhhONDA. Ford is better. Jut drive it.

Drag strip..0-60...quarter mile...? by ministerpaul08

I just can't understand the relevance of testing family sedans on the drag strip unless they're built for that kind of driving. What I'm more interested in is city driving, resale value, reliability, comfort, and value. I don't plan on driving an accord/Camry to the weekend races for a showdown with soccer moms. Ford has made improvements, but is nowhere near Toyota/Honda in consistent quality/reliability across their lineup. Sure Ford has slightly pulled a head with the Fusion, Focus, and Escape, but Ford has no reason to celebrate or rest on its laurels. The new Ford Taurus looks nice, but remains unproven and can not ride the exhaust fumes of its smaller siblings. And at that price one can find a much better vehicle than the Taurus...like the Fusion for one.

I am not sure how you came to your conclusion! I owen a 2006 V6 EX-L and its one the worst Accords I ever had. The change in size between previous and new accord reminds me of Ford when they changed the original Taures in the early Nineties. The current accord driver seats totaly uncomfertable on long drives, my V6 was replaced due to it was consuming oil. Also, go on your owen website and autobeef.com and see how many many compliants the owners have on the accord rear brakes wearing prematurly. I am impressed with Ford's new products and my next car will be a Fusion because its just sized right.

You say the Accord is too big, and the seats are uncomfortable, yet you bought one anyway? I can maybe understand that a test drive didn't reveal that the seats were uncomfortable, but the car didn't grow after you bought it. Why didn't you buy a Fusion in the first place?

I screwed up, I bought it based on past experiances with older Accords (i.e. still have a 1993 Accord that runs great an I enjoy driving). Also, When I bought the 2008 Accord in NOV 2007, the 2009 Fusion was avaliable which I didn't test drive, the 2010 Fusion was not out yet.

But what? by rlyon

I'm confused. The article said "It was a big lug, a slobbery SUV shaped like a sedan." but was talking about the last gen apparently. Maybe they didn't see the photos or car correctly because that description COMPLETELY describes the new Taurus. It's a tall square box that looks the like F-150 design crew got a hold of the design duties. The same way the Lincoln MKS is a monstering, towering beast of a car, the Taurus is long, tall, square, stiff, boring, and looks like a flattened SUV. They had to jack up the rear end to allow the driver to see over the flat hood!

Ford needs to confiscate ALL rulers and give it's designers FRENCH CURVES!!!

All designers would love some French curves! Seriously, isn't that the beef with the 97-2005 Taurus design? I guess its curves versus sharp angles. Haven't seen the new Taurus nor the LaCrosse, so I can't really say much about their design until I see them in person.

Ford can never compete with such a great car named ACCORD.Honda has been making accords for almost 30 years. And they know how to make the best car.Sadly brand new 2010 taurassss cant compete with 2008 honda accord, and ford just made this new car.Accord is simply faster, better, reliable, strong resale value.By the way for "wjtinal"whoever this goofy guy is,cars are used for more than grocrey.people dont spend 30grand just t go to gas station or walmart.Alot of people care if their car is snappy. And taurassssss is simply embarrasment.Accord beat that POS crappy tauraaaassss anyday.I wonder what will happen when new accord show up.so sad that 36k tauraaasss cant compete with 2008 or current gen accord which cost 6 grand less and perform better then crappy tauraaaassss in every field. No wonder detroit 3 are in big trouble.I wonder if it would be fair to compare next generation 2012 accord with current generation 2010 tauraaasss. All you ford looser fan boys,go waste your time on some ford crappy website.anyways no one is telling you to buy accord. We shall see if detroit 3 will exist in next 5 to 7 years,i will be surprised.now detroit 3 have to worry about chinese and korean getting stronger not to mention germans.how they will compete with japan?East or West "Honda is the best"Biggest Engine maker in the world.Long live Hondas.

C'mon - they aren't that different. How do explain Honda CRV oil filter engine fires and AC compressor and system failures, or Ody transaxle and engine pinging. These are all very expensive problems. Looks like the new Accord may have a big brake problem. A lot of old D3 may have been crap, but the newer stufff isn't all that different from Camcord, and sells for a lot less. Honda builds some nice products, but so do other companies. I think they will get closer as time goes on. Fusion may have better consumer report dots than Accord right now. Let's be objective please!

well, as asssman69 shows, at least there are children interested in cars.

But I can say as a Honda Civic owner "they ain't what they used to be". Interior trim is bunk and brake pad wear is suspect. Road noise is borderline unacceptable. MPG is good->great but power is absent. Okay for flat lands (VA, FL) scary now I'm in SoCal with hills and fast traffic.

Wife had a 1996 Civic that made me a believer in Honda quality, but no more!

I've owned Fords too, and they always got me around just fine (5.0 Mustang and 4.0 Ranger)

My 2005 Taco (>100K mi) is wearing better than my 2008 Civic (~12k mi)
