Sunroof ? ? ? by butchfoote

When one visits the Lexus HS250h website, there's a very big emphasis on ecology and economy plus the lux stuff.

Why in the world would these people be offering this car with a MOONROOF? It lets in light and heat, wasting it. Meanwhile, they have a Prius with a solar panel that runs the a/c or could be used to help charge the batteries.

To me this is marketing baloney. They aren't really committed to ecology until they take advantage of the energy falling on the Lex.

I believe they are offering a moon roof because it is an expected item in a "near luxury" vehicle. I suppose they could add the whole solar roof option from the Prius. I'm sure Lexus wants to hold SOMETHING back so they can toot their horn next year and say it's a new feature!

TOKYO/TORRANCE, California — The 2010 Lexus HS 250h, the upscale Toyota brand's first dedicated hybrid model, launched Tuesday in Japan. It ranges in price from the U.S. equivalent of $42,479 to $57,535, Toyota said.

If the loaded HS is $57K, I'll get a loaded ES and spend the extra $15K on gas for longer than I would own the car!

The Prius solar panel is not used to charge the battery. Just to run a little fan to keep the interior from heating up so much in the sun.

A small solar panel like that wouldn't make a dent in the electric power battery. It's basically a marketing ploy. (but a good one)

Well, that depends on your perspective.

Here in AZ, the Prius solar panel system can potentially reduce the inner vehicle temp from 160 to 120 and that makes a HUGE difference in comfort, in saving fuel, and in prolonging the life of the electronics in the vehicle.

The Prius solar panels were originally supposed to charge the battery. With it connected they discovered that it interfered with the radio, i.e., it was transmitting RFI and they were unable to determine why. Thus, for now, it only powers the ventilation fan when parked.

You must be kidding. Solar panels are dc. They can't generate RFI. Post a link to the source for this if you really think it's true. Thanks

Worth Thousands More than Camry Hybrid? by akt1000

The closest hybrid Toyota/ Lexus car to Lexus 250h is not Prius, but Toyota Camry Hybrid. Both of them have the same hybrid package with the same fuel mileage, similar body style and similar packaging, with the Camry offering slightly more room. A Camry hybrid can be equipped with most of the luxury options in 250h. So, the important question is (which the reviewer asked, but never answered): why pay quite a few thousands dollars more for a very similar car, except to say that you own a Lexus (and show snobbiness / stupidity)?

Yes as a matter of fact, it is worth more! First off "most of the luxury options" are not available on the Camry. Here are a few items that are available only on the HS - adaptive LED headlights with smart high beam, ventilated front seats, adaptive cruise control, HUD, LKA, real wood trim, and lets not forget the warranty and service that comes with the Lexus brand. So if spending a few more thousand bucks to get a Toyota Camry Hybrid with a Lexus badge as you allude to is "snobbiness/stupidity" - call me a stuck up retard.....
