OK guys, wife finally added some input to the car buying decision! She would rather wait a bit longer to save up the bucks to buy the Lexus and have a dealer 6 miles miles from the house....ugly reliable car it is....now to buckle down and save the $$$!

I will just say this....if you are truly happier in the car, and see yourself keeping it longer...then get the car you want.... now of course within reason. $10k more requires a stronger passion for the car. I think if most would just get the car they want from the start, they would keep them longer and perhaps save money over time. Rather than being unhappy and trying to trade out a few years later and losing money.

I have a lease now and I would love to be out, luckily I have a lease, I wished I would have slowed down and really thought things over. Dealers love to confuse you. $$.

But, this all equals living within your means too, getting a car that totally bursts outside that is not a very good call either.

Also on this Hybrid, something to think about too, you will not see any true savings for many years down the road, you will be putting most to your car payment, which is likely steep now, since it is new. That $10k extra will only further delay that savings too. So can you really call it economy saving?

For the fully loaded version your looking at $43,545. That is too much to be called anywhere green, at least compared financially.

Get the car you want from the start. Go slow about any decision. You'll appreciate and rest easier then.

Thanks for the input! We will be keeping the car at least 10 years, that's been our cycle. The $10K isn't anything to sneeze at, but in the big picture it's not that much (for us). I know myself well enough that if I had more than routine maintenance issues with the Audi, I would be mad at myself for not spending more and saving myself the aggravation of having to out of town for the dealer. Since we will be paying cash for the car, the payment thing is not an issue, it will just be a bit longer to save the extra $10K.
Ohh and where did you find a loaded one for $43K? I am looking at $48K.

Actual purchase or lease experience? by tambaydriver

Looked at the car this week and would like to know if any of the readers have actually bought/leased one and what their experience might have been.

Also, Carman, do you know of any incentives and or lease figures available on the HS. I would be interested in 36 mos, 12k per year, and appox & $38,500 msrp.

Thanks for any comments on your experience with the HS.

Anyone driven or bought this car? by msj09

I am surprised at the low number of posts here given the volume of advertising that Lexus is doing for this vehicle.

Has anyone driven the car/seen the car/bought the car yet? (Cammer2's comments above are much appreciated).

My questions are about comfort of the front seats, whether the center console interferes with right leg position when driving, how quiet it is on the highway, and how much room there is in the back seats. I have 2 car seats to install in the back seats and I barely have enough room in my '03 Honda Accord.

The prices they have started at seem high to me. When I add everything I would want in the car it ends up costing a few thousand more than I paid for a brand new RX400h this past May!

Carman,

The MSRP for the vehicle as I would like it optioned is $40,800 with an invoice of 37,300. I was given a resd of 61% for 36 mths and 54% for 48 (though I doubt I would go that long). I understand the mileage to be 12k per year. I am speaking to the finance manager tomorrow and I was hoping to have a better idea of what offers a legitimate. I understand it is new model and timing on this may not be the best, but my wife was impressed with the vehicle.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Lease & other thoughts by albert72

Went to look at the HS 250 last night. Seems like a nice car but did not drive it.

Quoted $429/mo 36 mos 10k/year + $1600. Price probably did not include taxes, Bank Fee (aka additional dealer profit). Seemed like a nice car - my guess is more incentives will be needed to move it but that will take a few months.

I only found 1 plug for my cell phone - looked hard for another one but could not find - hopefully I missed it because we need at least two.

Would be worried about a new model with all this technology - seems like a rolling lab that will need a year or two of tinkering before bugs are worked out - anyone care to comment on all new Lexus models and reliability issues?

Albert72,

Can you provide us with some of the details and options that were included in your quoted offer?

I was looking at a premium with nav and was quoted a monthly much higher. The terms (36 mth & 10k miles) were the same but my payment was closer to $600. 68% residual - .00229% MF - $42080 cap cost. No money down, just start ups.

Any insight would be welcome as my wife likes the car and looking to close a viable deal.

Prius v 250H by tomm

I, too, have read that the 250 H is built on the Prius (2010, though) platform. I have a 2008 Prius - and it runs "small" on the highway (wind buffeting and noise). I wanted the 250H, but can't seem to justify $40,000+ for a grown up Prius (and the back seats don't fold down in the 250H- may be breaker for me and my skiis in the winter). Any thoughts? [will look at the new Subie sedan soon - a $15,000+ savings and stats show it has all the room I need [both cars advertise a trunk for "4 golf bags"].

The model in the showroom was white and it was the upgraded package (18" wheels, etc - I think they call it the Premium Pkg). It did not have NAV. Seemed like a nice size car - looks slightly larger and certainly more upscale than the corolla.

Not sure how much dealers will negotiate on price right now but I am not so sure this is going to be a popular model. Said differently, I think it may be a bust. My guess is that if you could wait until later in the year, you will get a much better price.

Do you have any reservations about it being a new model and from what I can tell, an extremely complex piece of machinery?
