Yes as a matter of fact, it is worth more! First off "most of the luxury options" are not available on the Camry. Here are a few items that are available only on the HS - adaptive LED headlights with smart high beam, ventilated front seats, adaptive cruise control, HUD, LKA, real wood trim, and lets not forget the warranty and service that comes with the Lexus brand. So if spending a few more thousand bucks to get a Toyota Camry Hybrid with a Lexus badge as you allude to is "snobbiness/stupidity" - call me a stuck up retard.....

Have you driven the two cars? Have you driven either? I ask because it seems very common in car forums to equate similar sized cars from the same auto company, e.g. Altima - G37, Passat - A4, Accord - TSX. None of these cars has the same platform or drivetrain or suspension system. Some share the same engine but it is calibrated differently. I have driven all six above cars and the luxury versions: handle much more tautly, have more supple suspension, are quieter, have a much more ergonomic and high quality interior, and look much better. To people who don't drive the cars, this is all unimportant detail. To those of us who actually test drive and buy the cars, it is extremely important.
What dismays me about this car is the soft Lexus suspension. If you do pay $35k for a sport luxury car, it should be fun to drive. Gimme an Audi A4 TDI Allroad please!

I am not saying that Lexus 250h can't be worth more money than a similarly-equipped Toyota Camry, provided it drives better or the ride is better etc. I haven't driven Lexus 250h, but the reviewer had. After pointing out the similarity to Toyota Camry Hybrid, he didn't say a single word about the differences in the two cars in terms of driving the two (they have the same drivetrain). I would have liked to read about the real differences between driving the two cars.
Also, if there are some important (to the car buyer) options available on one car and not the other, then that can be a big swinger in making the decision on which car to buy. But the fact remains that almost all the standard features on the Lexus 250h are available for about $4500 less on the Toyota Camry Hybrid, Of course, for that lower price, Camry hybrid includes heated seats (important to us), for which Lexus wants one to buy an expensive Touring package or the Premium car.

It is caused by the inverter that converts the dc voltage output by the solar panel to the dc voltage needed to charge the battery. See the following articles at EV World, Scientific American, and BNET.

Pushing 40 grand for a fully loaded compact hybrid? Who is going to buy these things? A little more cash will get you a 335d, for Pete's sake.

Or the soon to be delivered Audi A3 TDI that will get well past 42 MPG out on the road. And for thousands less. I imagine the 250H will sell about as well as the other Lexus hybrid sedans.

Thanks for the links. As expected it wasn't the solar panels, it is the inverter design that chopped the dc up while changing the voltage to match the batteries. It must be leaking the high frequency chopper noise back up the pipe to the solar arrays, which by an interesting coincidence end up being tuned circuits with frequencies in the cellphone arena. Amazing!
