Correct way to service front axle boot.
Replace only boot or axle and boot? Been getting mixed advice.

Replace axle and boot. It comes as a single unit with a sealed boot installed, is not overly expensive, and is fairly simple to replace.
You *can* get general replacement boots that come with an open seam, but if you have a split boot now, you likely also have CV joint damage due to insufficient lubrication (or age, or both) that will only worsen at an accelerated rate. That means crawling under the car to replace the whole thing in the not-so-distant future. If you replace the boots before they split, you can likely extend the life of the CV joint.
How's that for mixed advice?
