Replying to: billjeep (May 31, 2009 6:49 pm) Water pump with wrong direction impeller is a very likely cause. But check for: 1. leaks. 2. Clogged hoses. 3. Clogged radiator. 4. Heater core backup. 5. Functioning thermostat. But when they fail they are supposed to fail in the open position to prevent overheating. Most of those can be fixed with a good flush/backflush with a good radiator cleaner. If you have replaced those part and done that service, there may be something far more serious at play. My 97 TJ has NEVER overheated, and in fact ran cool. Replacing the pump with the proper type (if it is a reverse flow pump, it'll have an "R" on the impeller). made it heat up to operating temps withing a few minutes and STAY there. It NEVER goes over the midpoint temp marker on the dash. Replace with the proper parts and everything should be just fine. Details of what exactly has been done would help. Your "many parts" is too vague for us to help you. -Paul |
