For that amount of $14k you should be able to get a 2007-2008 Corolla and if certified a good warranty. Consumer reports gives in a very high rating but to over all compare these two cars is not fair. Kia has came along way in the past few years but if you are ask me take the Corolla and the track record. Take a look on the road when you are out driving what do they look like after a few year down the road. How are they holding up and lastly go out and price a used 2008 or 2009 Kia to see what your resale will be if you decide to change in a year or so.
Good luck

Thank you for the reply.. Yes, I understand the Corolla is not in the same class as the other two at all, but my fiance's main concern was that the warranty will not be for as long as the other two cars, and as he put it, he wants "as much of a buffer against future repair bills as possible."

I have had a Kia Rio since 2002 and it has been great. I get 30 mpg. The only problem I have is that I went to a Jiffy Lube for an oil change and the person putting in the plug stripped it.
