I am replacing my left cv joint. I could push my new cv-joint in almost all the way but one 5-8 mm gap. I am thinking to hammer it into transaxle. I wonder what size of a hammer I should use and how hard I should hit it? I do not want to damage my cv-joint and anything else. Thanks

I did my right front one four years ago with the help of a more knowledgeable friend. I got the axle from Raxels. (I'm assuming you're doing the "half-shaft" or axle when you say CV joint). Their install page says not to pound on the joint with a hammer when installing it.

Mine took some finagling but it did "snick" into place with just a little pounding with my hand. You may want to remove the new one and compare it to the old one to make sure they are the same length. Otherwise, I've read that you should stick to light tapping with a rubber mallet but try to avoid it if you can.

Even though it's been years, I can still remember crawling around under my '99 and thinking what a pain it was to do (and my buddy did the heavy lifting). Good luck!
