Forget the self healing paint.. I prefer to use on all my cars is Mother's gold clay bar.. clay bar is the best.. takes out the imperfection on teh paint and easly to use.. you probably can do your whole car in 2 to 3 hours.. and apply some liquid glass wax... you'll probably need to wear sun glasses after the galss like smooth surface and shine..

Thinking about putting the 3 M clear film protectant on the car. Any thoughts.

I just went through installing the film on my G37 (ordered via InvisibleMask.com--there are several companies out there that cut the actual pieces, but the film is generally the same). Some pieces--hood and upper fenders--were a piece of cake. Others--mirrors and headlights in particular--I found impossible to install neatly. Bear in mind I'm no pro, but I have installed this film on two cars previously so I wasn't a complete novice either. The first headlight I wrestled with for more than an hour before I ripped it off and gave up--similar story with the mirrors. Their undulating shapes makes applying the film very challenging, so I'd recommend a pro to install at least those parts. And for the lower-bumper piece (which is a single, HUGE piece), you need at least two people to help apply and install simultaneously from both sides.

U said u have on other vehicles. Does the non-masked paint fade versus the masked part?
did u put any on the doors to prevent other car doors leaving marks.

Paint on modern cars doesn't really fade if kept clean and waxed even on a yearly basis. The film is supposed to be transparent to UV (and all other) radiation, and indeed, from my experience at least, I could not detect any discoloration or difference in fading for paint under the film.
 
I didn't apply the film to the doors--the kits don't normally include whole panels to cover doors, although I have heard of custom (pro) paint protection shops that can wrap your entire car if you'd like (probably a $1500-2000 operation, however, which I would question the value of).
 
I should also mention that the trouble I had with the mirrors and headlights might have been because of imprecise cuts on the kit--as I said, different firms cut them differently. You can also check with xpel.com and stongard.com (both more expensive).

Thank you for the information. I will try to hunt an installer.
 
I plan to keep the car for a long time, so I think its worth doing the crucial areas. My other car has scratches all over the door handle and that's what I want to prevent.
