Nissan Sentra Power Steering pump problem by mukesh11

Hello,

I have a 1995 Nissan Sentra GXE. My car makes some humming sound
which is some thing like whinning when it is started.
I had the Nissan dealer look at it. Since the
car is quite old, my car has some problems. One of the problem
which can probably be the reason for the sound is that my power
steering pump has a bent shaft leak. I was advised by the dealer
to replace the pump, hose( which has the leak), 2 clamps and belts.

My car can drive fine even with the noise. I am guessing that the
power steering pump is fine. Can I replace just the hose, clamps and
the belts without replacing the pump? Is the hose part of the pump or
separate from it? Can one just replace the hose without replacing the
pump? Will it help is removing the noise which I hear when I start the
car?

Is it also possible that the noise is because of Catalytic converter or
rear O2 Sensor? The dealer had told me that they probably also need
replacing. Since, the car is quite old I don't want to spend lot of
money on repair but get by with just the needed ones.

Your advice will be very much appreciated.

Cheers,
MK
