XC60 3.2 by dprobrick

Has anyone driven a 3.2 or seen a review of it? everything I can find relates to the T6 and I am wondering how much performance and acceleration suffers with the smaller engine. Looking forward to learning more about it so I can make a purchase decision - others I am considering are Audi Q5 and 2010 SRX. also thinking about waiting for the new X3. Are others cross shopping those vehicles?

the 3.2 was remapped for the XC60. I found it to be surprisingly quick.
Obviously, it isn't as fast as the T6 but for everyday duty it is more than adequate.

I'll admit it, we paid more for a vehicle than we wanted...we were actually looking at the killer deals on '08 XC 90s...I could do without city-safe, blis, giant moonroof BUT...since the budget allowed AND the C70 is paid for AND since we don't pay 1% of value for tags each year(like Atlanta), we are happy with the almost fully loaded XC60. Having had the '06 RX330, that sort of normally aspirated power is certainly adequate BUT...our turbo sure is nice! Hard to go back to 'putting your foot into it' instead of the smooth quickness of the T5 and T6. Heck, if they can sell non-turbo FWD XC90s, the 3.2 60 should do very well indeed.

Yeah the 3.2 in the XC60 feels very different then in the XC90 or XC70.

I still like the T6 better and the gas mileage penalty isn't enough to bother me.

How does the XC60 ride compare to the X3? by califjohn1

Hi Max! Am getting to the end of a 4 year stint with my X3 and it has been a very reliable car. However I really hate the ride over nasty, broken, raised expansion jointed highways. Both my daughters have Volvos, an XC70 and XC90, both cars ride much better than the X3. I have really been considering the XC60 but if it is a harsh, stiff ride over bad roads I want no part of it. The other problem is we seem to be losing our dealers around here, I hope this is not going to continue! What is your take on the ride? Thanks Max, BTW I remember you from the VW days in SJ.

Hmm, must have me confused w/ someone else. Never sold VW's, never been to San Jose.

However, the XC60 is smoother than the X3. It is tighter than either the XC70 or XC90.
XC60 is my favorite driving and handling SUV. Good control without being harsh.

Sorry Max, thought you were the old "vwmax" that used to appear on Edmunds boards. You both had the same, no nonsense, informative writing style. Anyhow, when you say "tighter" does that mean a harsh jolting "buckboard" like ride over the potholes and "washboard" pavement? The X3 has been a great disappointment, wonderful reliable car, great handling, decent fuel mileage, but absolutely horrible ride on any kind of rough road. I am going to try a XC60 test drive if I can still find a Volvo dealer open around here. I think Smythe in SJ may still be around.

"Tighter" in this case means an absence of roll. The suspension does a very good job of soaking up bumps.
The XC90 and the XC70 do have a tendency to roll quite a bit in cornering.
This is something that most Volvo's do. The XC60 corners much flatter than either of the other cars.
Absolutely take a test drive!
