Mazda's steering is the best you'll find under 40 grand... and you want the Pontiac numbness and mushiness instead? Interesting.
 
That said, Honda's engine (without VCM) is a powerhouse, and smoother/more refined than the Nissan's.

Honda V6 +1...
Honda J35 produce 90%+ torque peak torque from 1600 rpm - 6200rpm (the torque is hiding unless you punch it)
Honda engine is very refine and smooth
Honda uses timing belt
 
Nissan might edge honda at low rpm (not that much since honda could put out 90% of the torque down low)
Nissan requires premium (but it seems to run okay with regular)
Nissan engine sounds harsh and thrashy
Nissan uses timing chain
