What do you think about the possibility of shipping Saturn (and possibly Saab) overseas? Can any company turn a profit with Saturn?

The Chinese got Saturn. I have never cared for French cars even if it has been years since I was in one. After a few miles you might start craving Jerry Lewis movies and suddenly have a desire to surrender to someone.

To be serious it doesn’t much matter does it? The only problem we ever had in reality with Renault or any of the French cars when they were still imported was they didn’t have a clue about service and parts supply. It would be so cool if either the French or the Chinese used the opportunity to use the original Saturn sales model. The price is posted and like a Chinese dinner to only add what you want to pay for. Plus one sales person did the whole deal. Just as long as they don’t try to introduce a folding cloth top.

Renault > Saturn = Fiat > Chrysler by michaell

I really think the two situations are similar to one another. A large European manufacturer gets a sales channel in the US to sell its products.

However, the one difference - and its a big one - is that Saturn has no independent manufacturing facilities. Fiat, if all goes as planned, will get some of the existing Chrysler capacity in the US in which to build its products. Renault, as I understand it, would still have to build everything in Europe and then ship to the US, which makes the products subject to currency fluctuations (Saturn Astra, anyone?).

Nonetheless, it's an intriguing option .. I wouldn't mind having more product to choose from when it comes time to replace my Saturn L300 V6.

How would they react to a second Renault presence?

FWIW-- I find Renault to have a more compelling European line up than Fiat or Opel.
