In his feeble attempt to schmooze the Muslim World Obama has made rather large mistakes in math. Is it poor handling or teleprompter gone awry? To further diminish American Christianity and inflate Muslim presence here, on June 1st President Obama told French television, “If you actually took the number of Muslim Americans, we’d be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world.” In his speech in Cairo today, he put the number of Muslims in America at 7 million. According to the CIA World Factbook, there are only 1.8 million Muslims here. President Einstein miscalculated by almost 400%. He isn’t even right about the USA Muslim population being “one of the largest Muslim countries in the world.” Assuming his overinflated number, there are between 30 and 35 countries with more Muslims than we have, and if we stop him from lying and use the real number, the American Muslim community ranks about 50th in size. Certainly not one of the largest. Once again we see an attempt by Obama to inflate Muslims by overstating their size and saying America would be “one of the largest Muslim countries,” but three times he has insisted America is “not a Christian country,” despite that we are ranked #1 in the world in Christian population and the birthday of Christ is an American national holiday. More than 75% of US citizens claim to be Christian. I guess we continue to forgive Obama's denial of how most Americans believe. I don't think he is winning the hearts of the militant Muslims either. They see him for what he is. A lying politician, that will say anything to maintain his power. Source

Replying to: gagrice (Jun 06, 2009 5:19 am) The figure for # of Muslims is disputed and unproven. .06% is generally accepted as the bare minimum, but is based on 2001 numbers. Otherr sources (US ambassador to Pakistan for instance) suggest more. But no one really knows because there is no definitive up to date study. Probably the truth lies between 3 and 7 million somewhere. I think Obama is quite naive to believe he can broker a peace in the Middle East with "project outreach". Nonetheless, the idea of winning the hearts and minds of the youngest generation of Muslims by taking a higher moral road has some merit. The problem is that most Muslims hate their leaders and the US has traditionally supported those leaders (Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Indonesia) . The Muslims of the world are not so stupid as to overlook this fact of history. At any rate, previous US policy these last 8 years was a disaster, so we might as well try some other approach. Perhaps there is no ready solution and it will just have to fester and burst, like in North Korea. We can't do anything about NK, we'll have to wait for a change of leadership to get anything done there.

Yes he is naive thinking he can appeal to Islamic militants. He will be real popular if by some chance we do get Osama bin Laden during his Presidency. He is still a big hero both in the USA and abroad to practicing Muslims. https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/us.html#People

Replying to: gagrice (Jun 06, 2009 7:23 pm) The CIA has a wonderful catchphrase called "drinking your own bathwater' which essentially means an agency creates propaganda, send it to the press, the press eats it up and publishes it, and then the agency reads about itself in the paper and believes what it says. It happens even to the most idealistic of organizations. I am a firm believer in the concept that violence is the result of incompetence and inarticulateness. The more violent one is, is the result of being the more unable to exchange information with the world.
