I'd just as soon not sweep stuff back under the rugs. And why should emails be public record? I don't know how Obama gets away with keeping his emails private - maybe calling it work product stuff? It seems like "correspondence" having to do with conducting the people's business should be public. Ah, here we go: "Presidential Records Act of 1978: This act requires that any messages or records discussing government business by the president are retained by the National Archives and made available to the public." So they are public record; we just won't get to see them, absent subpoena, for decades. The Ultimate Guide to the Ultimate Blackberry (Obama’s). |

I think you would find it is a growing way of getting things done. One of the few ways the middle class is able to maintain their eroding standard of living. She's only a threat if the left makes a blunder. You of course mean like the last time they controlled Congress and Newt and company took away their control. She is a much more convincing speaker than Newt. Though I would hardly put her in his intellectual arena. This Congress has made so many blunders it is hard to know which is the worst ones. In spite of your personal disdain for Palin, she has a mighty big base in the GOP. If these stories circulating prove to be just more Democrat smear campaign, It will be a strong signal to awaken the sleeping giant in America. Those that still want to believe this is a great country. And why should the conservative base atone for their sins when the Liberal left are mostly given a wink for their sins. John Edwards being the exception in recent memory. Everyone of my friends that voted for Obama and I have many. Have told me they should have listened to what he was saying. If they had they would not have voted for him. Though most were voting against McCain that represented old guard to them.

The US might be a lowest common denominator mass declining into a globalized hell a little more each year, but I like to think it isn't that dumb yet. Sleeping giant...it is time for those who claim to be a part of that to put up or shut up. I don't believe most who claim to be in a moral majority have the balls to take action. You say if the stories are a smear campaign...what if they are true, even with an element of truth behind them? What will the "sleeping giant" do then? Chalk up yet another GOP embarrassment? I would like to ask your friends what they think the alternative would do better, and to provide specifics. Do they believe the people who didn't help things before will change things now? That someone like Gramm could help the economy? I believe the Dems won based more on GOP mistakes than on Dem strengths. People yearned for change after the neocon movement was shown to be the grand cowardly lie that it is. The conservatives always go down the moral road, when reality proves they have no right to a moral high ground. They point at others but can't admit what they have done - and then cry about others doing likewise. Hypocrisy isn't attractive. Tout your strengths, not the weaknesses of others. The Dems still have the "change" strength on their side after the disaster of the past several years. The GOP hasn't been able to ante up anything positive yet.

Some get in trouble the most just keep on keeping on. Pelosi's and Starkist Tuna paying under minimum wages, comes to mind. The conservatives always go down the moral road, when reality proves they have no right to a moral high ground. They point at others but can't admit what they have done What is the Moral high ground? I believe all people are inherently evil. That includes the GOP leadership as well as the Democrats. Seems that when caught the conservatives like Newt and Sanford fess up without wasting millions on Congressional hearings. And I believe anyone that breaks the trust between themselves and their spouse has no business as a leader in our government. They should be drummed out. Same goes for illegal financial shenanigans. If Palin broke the law giving illegal favors, I will turn on her like a pit bull. Not just because some radio host in AK likes to spread rumors. Funny how the Dems love someone like Shannon when they would like to muzzle Rush. What is the difference? Sometimes you confuse me. Your railing against people like Gramm and the Federal Reserve seem to be in direct conflict. One wants to deregulate the other is total government regulation of banking. Can we agree on one thing. The Sub-Prime lending has been the biggest factor in destroying our current economy. I disagree that Gramm deregulation of banking forced banks to give loans to people that did not have the wherewithal to repay the loans. That falls directly on the backs of the Democrats since Carter, pushed further by Clinton, Dodd, Frank and ACORN. Sub-Prime lending and competitive banking are not synonymous.

" You'll also find that in virtually every construction related industry, and in my area anyway, those areas are virtually wholly owned by GOPers (many of whom have inherited their means) - although I suspect most of them vote that way simply to lower their personal tax liabilities. "What is the Moral high ground?" Crying about the sins of others when failing to admit to and repent for your own - and making those sins a damning force when committed by others, but ignoring them when committed by your friends. It's a mindset embraced by many since at least WW2. Gramm, someone with no experience in the real world and not a shred of responsibility in his yellow soul, says we are "whiners" if we complain about the economy. Are we? Why is he any less evil than the Federal Reserve? Can we admit that both are, in the long run, destructive ideals? "Sub-Prime lending and competitive banking are not synonymous. " American corporate strategy wrought by unmanaged capitalism, and a lack of longterm foresight are synonymous - and the former strategy is a hallmark of those who wish for no regulation, no oversight, and the hilarious spectre of globalized "free markets" - who also happen to claim to be conservatives. The previous regime liked to mention the "ownership society" - if it was all the fault of one side, the other shirked their responsibility to try to stop it, and to make a public scene if they couldn't. They failed at both...or maybe they didn't, as they were in on it every bit as much as Dodd and Frank - they used easy money to buy votes when we were in a time of false prosperity. Do any non-partisan economists believe that Gramm has no responsibility in this mess? IMO, he's just another traitor. He and Kissinger are destined for the same level of hell. |

Obama knows how to impress the world. MOSCOW (Reuters) - In a slip of the tongue, U.S. President Barack Obama described Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on Monday as president, echoing the widely held view that he remains Russia's most powerful man. Putin surrendered the presidency to protege Dmitry Medvedev last May to take the lesser post of prime minister

Replying to: fintail (Jul 05, 2009 7:05 am) I think a lot about what you post. And I appreciate your opinions and insight. A totally free market with no rules or laws would be unacceptable. I am not so sure that I or you would be a serf. Looking back at my 46 years mostly in the phone business, I would say I had been dumbed down to a form of slavery. The restraints put on a Union worker pretty much stifle any sort of incentive to do better. Being paid well and having a good retirement may be little compensation for selling my abilities to the highest bidder. I knew that I could achieve more personal satisfaction by leaving the comfort of a high paying Union job. I chose the easy road and have nothing to look back on with pride. As one manager told me, Gary you are wasting your talents in this job. How much personal satisfaction is there with being guaranteed a middle class standard of living from cradle to grave? I think we have all but destroyed the individual with Liberal Socialist programs. No chance of failure when you have your rent paid, food stamps and a big screen TV. And they keep you in that condition by taking your welfare if you do try to get an entry level job. As far as the globalization. It gets back to who is best at doing a particular job. It was not capitalism that pushed jobs to China. It was Government manipulation through taxation and regulation. It was strong armed Unions that pushed the jobs from the East to the Midwest to the South and on to China, India & the rest of the World. You want to know how we can regain some of the jobs back in this country. And the Conservatives in Congress have proposed these ideas. They get shot down by the vote buying Liberals every time. Cut Corporate taxes and make it a friendly country to do business. We have some of the highest Corporate taxes in the World. Why would anyone in their right mind build a factory in the USA today? If you look at where the $800 billion in stimulus is directed you will realize why so few jobs have been created by that big fat LIE.
