Should give him a running start on winning in 2010. If they share much of the same ideas for Alaska it was the RIGHT thing to do. If Palin's plans are not politically motivated she may be wanting to get more involved in pushing the gas line through Canada. That was her pet project when she headed up the Oil and gas Commission. As well as during her tenure as Governor. In my Opinion her lack of education is overcome by her common sense. Something that seems totally missing in Washington DC. I would not tack quitter on her quite yet. I don't think we have seen the last of Sarah Palin by any stretch. I really would not expect her to go for the Presidency in 2012. That is a long time off and Barry will have pretty well buggered up the economy by then. Unless he has some kind of bubble up his sleeve.

The rumor on the street is that an indictment is pending for getting her house build free by Todd's friends ... while Todd's friends were building a giant public sports complex down the street. She's been a quitter before though - she didn't serve out her term on the Alaska Oil & Gas Commission either. One thing she'd done is help the HuffPo web hits. I didn't think I'd revisit that site until the next election. I'm ALWAYS a bit LEERY of people who write in sporatic CAPS with lots of !!! too. It doesn't make for effective communication to me. But when your state has low population, low public infrastructure demands, and an ability to dodge tax liabilities, the world is your oyster.

Replying to: fintail (Jul 04, 2009 12:57 pm) It's all speculation about Palin at this point, but it's entertaining to speculate. At least so long as you aren't the one on the receiving end of it. |

Replying to: fintail (Jul 04, 2009 1:02 pm) Hmmmm, I can somewhat agree. However, we have Never had a totally free market to find out what would happen. Yes this is the new reality. It was inevitable. One of my favorite writers Jerry Pournelle predicted this exact situation more than 30 years ago in his ScFi books. His and my belief is you cannot put up a wall around you. You have to bring those less fortunate up to your standard or they will bring you down to theirs. Looks like the worst case scenario is happening. I think the UAW is a good example of a few people getting more than their fair share with little effort. While all those around them were making less than half, many working much harder for what they got. To be perfectly honest I was also in that category with my job. Though far less people willing to spend half their life in the Arctic to achieve that standard of living. Worrying about the rich getting richer is a futile pursuit. Since the beginning of man, a few have dominated the many. Always has been always will be. With the walls crashing down around US, my children and grandchildren will have it much harder than I did. As far as our buggered economy. Spending will only make it worse. You and I both know that. Barry should have studied history instead of community organizing.

Replying to: gagrice (Jul 04, 2009 2:51 pm) It is not about helping the less fortunate, the globalist ideal has nothing to do with that. It is about a few reaping windfall profits by exploiting and abusing cheap labor, living away from any sense of responsibility. Any improvement seen in less developed regions is a side-effect and is not intended. They will not bring us down, we are enabling this, not them. It is some of "us" who will betray their background, consequences be damned. Regarding the rich getting richer...there's an old adage that religion is the only factor keeping the poor from killing the rich. I have to wonder if that is a sustainable crutch. Spending might not make things better...but IMO the terminal damage was done long before Barry was breathing, long before Dubya was breathing too.

Replying to: steve_ (Jul 04, 2009 11:39 am) I think you will find that rumor was started by long time enemy from Palin's mayoral days. As a non political candidate citizen she will be free to sue those that defame. FBI says the story is total fabrication. It would be good to see liberal rags like Huffpo, MSNBC and NYT, pay $millions in defamation damages. JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) The abruptness of her announcement and the mystery surrounding her plans have fed widespread speculation. But Palin attorney Thomas Van Flein on Saturday warned legal action may be taken against bloggers and publications that reprint what he calls fraudulent claims. "To the extent several websites, most notably liberal Alaska blogger Shannyn Moore, are now claiming as 'fact' that Governor Palin resigned because she is 'under federal investigation' for embezzlement or other criminal wrongdoing, we will be exploring legal options this week to address such defamation," Van Flein said in a statement. "This is to provide notice to Ms. Moore, and those who re-publish the defamation, such as Huffington Post, MSNBC, the New York Times and The Washington Post, that the Palins will not allow them to propagate defamatory material without answering to this in a court of law." He also told the Anchorage Daily News that Palin wasn't in any criminal legal jeopardy. "I can say definitively I am aware of no criminal investigation whatsoever involving Sarah Palin. Zero," he said. The FBI reiterated that claim Saturday, telling the Los Angeles Times for a story Sunday that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was not investigating Palin's activities as governor, a former mayor or in any other capacity. "There is absolutely no truth to those rumors that we're investigating her or getting ready to indict her," Special Agent Eric Gonzalez, the bureau's Alaska spokesman, said.
