I am amazed by jtinnj1

I am so amazed at the automotive press and also the public. I will be the first to admit that the American auto companies earned their reputation for non-quality product, but have made impressive strides to overcome these issues. However the automotive presss is so quick to nit pick about the American autos while being so accepting of the foreign brands, even when they are lesser vehicles. I wonder what is happening to this country and the mentality of the people and the press. I have seen both vehicles, the SRX and RX and hands down the SRX is the winner. Also GM has been producing world class drive trains for some time now, and this combination can only but produce a world class product. Yes I realize that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but to not even comment directly on this in your write-up is criminal.

Judging from the pictures, the 2010 SRX looks very promising. But I'd like to wait and see one in person to really get a feel for the overall look. I think they should have given a new name to this vehicle. It's funny that now we're going to have an "RX"(Lexus) and an SRX(Cadillac) on the road soon. Yes, I know these monikers were already out there on the road to begin with, but now the SRX definitely has that crossover look as opposed to the station wagon look from the previous generation.

I don't think Lexus really cares what a bunch of so called "enthusiasts" think about their vehicles, nor do their customers for that matter. Its the reason why they continue to make cars with proper luxury rides, like they did with the first Lexus. Comfort is a large part of luxury and thats the reason Lexus happens to be the best selling luxury brand.

On a side note I nearly laughed at the pricing of the SRX. Of course, there will be some who will buy it to save GM but the idea of someone who would buy the SRX simply because of ride issues of the softer RX is laughable. Lets see how well the SRX interior holds up. I have yet to see a Lexus with quality issues. Cadillacs on the other hand, I've seen way too much of them. The current CTS seems good though.

For adopting the Honda/Acura SH-AWD system, the best of the best for a vehicle with sideways mounted engines (base FWD vehicle). Second, for adopting a rather small but appropriate 3.0L engine and then using DFI to bring HP up to the equal of Toyota/Lexii's 3.5L.

Never, NEVER, thought I would ever own a Cadillac, but.....

Why aren't there any shots of the rear passenger area or the cargo area? Every other "first drive" article has a plethora of shots from every aspect of the vehicle. If there aren't any shots of the two aforementioned areas, then what's the point of even writing up an article about an SUV?

I just see a few interior shots on a net image search, and just found one cutaway shot of the back seat from Cadillac Blog. Surely there wouldn't be an embargo on interior photos?

No, not many will choose an SRX over an RX because they prefer a firmer ride. On the other hand, they may very well choose the SRX because they realize that firmer suspension yields quicker and more predictable responses in an emergency. Oh, wait, wasn't that the job of the overly intrusive electronic nanny in the RX? To keep us from exceeding the limits of the overly spongy Lexus suspension?

What's next from the Lexus fanmoms? Praising gradual throttle response because it prevents the driver from accelerating too quickly? Celebrating spongy brakes because they prevent passengers from being unduly jostled from a nap during a panic stop?

Haldex doesnt = SH-awd by hondacura4

WWest, the Haldex system is NOT equal to that of Acura's SH-awd system as the Haldex system ONLY can transfer torque front and rear. The SH-awd system combines front-rear torque distribution control with independently regulated torque distribution to the left and right rear wheels to freely distribute the optimum amount of torque to all four wheels in accordance with driving conditions.

SH-AWD allows torque to be continuously distributed between front and rear wheels from 70% front/30% rear to 30% front/70% rear, with up to 100% of the rear power being distributed to the outer left or right wheel to assist in cornering and dramatically reducing understeer. These %'s are sourced from the SH-awd found on the Acura RL. Acura implemented the SH-awd system differently model to model so the specs and hardware/software will vary model to model.

The sharp pointy hard edges of the dash are a definite turnoff IMHO. In my day (don't ask) a Cady was luxury. This interior does NOT look luxurious to my eyes.

I don't miss the floaty-boaty days. I like cars that can handle and be comfy at the same time. As in some of the BMW's I've owned.

Now my ride is a 300C hemi. Doesn't hurt my back like the CrownVic sport I traded in on it.

I know that Chrysler has now bent to the feds...but I'll drive this hemi up the ass of one of Obamas' economy cars in 2017 and survive. Too bad for the lib driving one of those new economy cars. Think before you vote.

I doubt that I'll follow this thread...so flame on!

Peace...Out

BTW, does anyone else think this rig looks like the Saturn equivalent on the exterior?

This isn't a technical "First Drive" test. This is simply a first drive of the PRE-production SRX, and the interiors aren't finished the way they will be when production starts. These are basically engineering mules for the purposes of testing engines, transmissions, suspension etc.. I'm sure when Edmunds gets their hands on a PRODUCTION model, they will have many photos and a full write-up and most likely a video. Stay tuned... that's just a few months away
