Car and Driver just did a roadtest on the Honda, toyota, and a 12 year old Chevy Metro. The Metro tied the Prius on mpg and the Honda was way down from the Prius. They didn't say to many flattering things about the Prius. Kind of reminded me of the type of unwarranted things Consumers Reports always says about American Cars but everybody thinks they are right so I guess Car and Driver are right about the Prius. Just one example was the hokey gear shift lever and also having to push a button to put it in park.

Those morons probably didn't realize it doesn't have gears and that you have to shut the system down. If it's not conventional then it must not be any good.

I wouldn't expect C&D to give the Prius a good rating. They like fast sporty cars. And, since I'm not interested in that type of vehicle, I have never taken their reports seriously.

Because human factor is used in the assessment process, every magazine will be biased to a certain degree (including CR). We all have biases. With C&D they might be tempted to help fault a vehicle into the number 1 spot by assigning extra points in the "fun factor" or other subjective category. That's the way they compensate companies that pay them to "test" their cars (or pay extra advertising dollars). That's the real world.

I look at Consumers Reports the same as you do C & D as CR doesn't like American cars and most always give them a bad rap.

I don't necessarily like CR either, but their ratings are based on what people tell them rather than the opinion of a couple of people taking a drive and putting a car through a series of tests.

One BIG problem I have with surveys used by most companies, they send these out right after I get the car. I rated my 350Z pretty high when I got it, but after all the hassle with alignment and tires I was ready to give it away. I didn't have a chance to change my earlier impressions on the car. Even when fighting with the factory I was having problems because early on not many people were putting miles on their z's and they simply had not yet experienced the problems. later the factory admitted my car was in the build date of cars with problems. In the 15,000 miles I had the car only about 3,000 miles were enjoyable.

Not true. CR's ratings of cars are based on their own road tests. Their predictions on reliability, OTOH, are based on results from their surveys of their readers.

From what I've read, the level II Prius at $22,000 isn't "stripped." In fact, I don't see anything above level II that I'd even want. Maybe someone has better info on what's missing other than heated/leather seats, upgraded sound system & tires, bluetooth...and the capability of getting the backup camera, parking assistance, smart cruise control, sunroof and a few other things that I find totally useless to me.

Drove 2010 yesterday and it impressed me. We went to the dealership to purchase a 2010 Camry XLE V-6 and came out purchasing both.

We drove level II, III, and IV and settled on Level II. Will be in next week in Blizzard White. We got a 750.00 discount off MSRP with no other fees. Dealer claims mark up is about 804.00 on Level II

We purchased 2010 Camry at about 300.00 under invoice and got 3.9 interest on total balance after trade ( 2007 Lexus ES 350). Had nothing but trouble with it.

Dealer gave me clean book on trade (needs tires) of 25,000 with 33,000 miles.

...is written by morons. I finally read the article last night while on the head. It was an appropriate se(i)tting. These guys tested the Prius and obviously never studied the sustem. They talked about how you would want to drive around in "B" most of the time, which totally defeats the regen.

I realize that "feel" makes a lasting impression but they bad mouth the Prius and praise the Insight, yet every performance category but one was won by the Prius.

Well I own a 2010 Prius and I love it! It's significantly better than the 2009 models. The Prius II is essentially their base model. Yes I know they will actually have a base model later but for all intent the Prius II has no available options, no Nav, sunroof etc...
I'm very happy with mine! Lots of power and it's very quite and super comfortable. It gets 50mpg without even trying. I don't need Nav, I have nothing to use for Bluetooth and the stock stereo is ok for my purposes. I'd like to see the Prius II get the same 2.5 turns to lock steering as the Prius V and 3 door SKS but other than that it's just great the way it is.
