i have a 2000 ford ranger and i need to fix my ball joint uper and lower on the front both sides and i wanted to know if it's better to replace the ball joint with the control arm or is it ok to just replace just the ball joint.

I have a 99 ranger. Recently a harsh squealing sound has been coming from the left front when I hit a bump or turn the wheel. I was told this was the ball joints. I'm not sure if it needs to be replaced or just greased. Anyway, I was reading in the Haynes Repair manual and it says that on Ranger models 1998 and later, "The balljoints are an integral part of the control arms and cannot be replaced separately; if a balljoint is damaged or worn out, the control arm must be replaced."
