Rear end noise by jd1017

Hi Everyone. I bought band new an '03 awd Aviator loaded. It has been an amazing vehicle and other than a split in the rear lift gate which the dealer admitted was a design flaw and fixed for free I have been trouble free. That is until three weeks and 95, again traveling on the expressway when the "check transmission" light and bell came on and almost made me drive off the road. I brought it to my dealer and with $100.00 diagnostic fee announced I would need to replace the differential case at $2-3500.00!!? I brought it to my local repair shop the did a free diagnostic, drained the transmission fluid (it was fine) reset the idiot light and I've been fine since. They mentioned at the shop there may be a transfer case issue later on but said the noise is not that bad. I still hear a rear whine at all speeds but the warning light and bell has not sounded since. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!
