But mine wasn't starting hard before that, but it sure started running rough after the check engine light came on and threw the knock sensor code. I'm not much of a mechanic but it sounds like some sort of fuel system problem. Or maybe it just needs a dose of Techron. One thing you can do is turn the ignition to ON before cranking the van. If that helps it crank easier, you may be able to live with it that way (turning the ignition on starts the fuel pump and pressurizes the system). If that tricks helps, it could indicate a fuel pressure regulator problem. See this Edmunds Answers post too. Steve, visiting host

Replying to: blwegrzyn (Mar 31, 2009 12:44 pm) On my 99 Quest I was having an intermittent missing problem for a while and then the check engine light came on. When I had it scanned it told me my knock sensor was faulty. But an engineer said that a KS by itself wouldn't turn on the CE light. when I got inside the distributor I found that the bearings had failed and there little pieces of metal all inside the space around the coil. That's what was causing the problem. --grateful fred
