Replying to: backy (Mar 28, 2009 3:15 pm) Actually it's more than just "obvious". In the past there have been a few complaints as to the 2ND Gen. Prius's handling (and crosswind effects). As much as I often praise Toyota and the Prius I've always considered the handling somewhat of a weak link to its near perfect reputation. Crosswinds effect all smaller cars and severe crosswinds effect ALL cars. That's the price we pay for wanting cars that get premium mpg's. The 3RD Gen Prius has been getting better grades for handling and that's good enough for me to consider buying one. All the other improvements are also impressive to boot. Actually it is more about profile than size. I was following a guy in a large pickup with a cab on the back and he was blowing all over the place. My nice aerodynamic and small Integra was not having a problem. When we stopped the guy was saying how bad the wind was and I told him I hardly noticed. I have driven a 15 passenger van in the wind and they are also terrible despite being large and heavy. Our 2009 Honda Fit does get blown around a lot in the wind as well. Also our fuel economy drops as well. No doubt it's the light weight with the high box profile. My 2008 Civic Si completely ignored the wind even when other cars were visibly moving.

I was going to get a 2010 Prius level V and found out that the solar cooler is not available for that version. One needs to drop down to level IV which drops the 17 inch wheels and the LED headlights. Weird. Replies to this message: wcwiii (Jul 27, 2009 8:47 pm)

I am guessing that the bifurcation of the equipment choices is so that you can't buy everything you want and avoids having a Prius with a sticker price of $40,000+ which would be picked up by all the anti Prius people and press and be very damaging. This way, a fully loaded MSRP maxs out at around $33,000 which is still a lot for an "economical" car that supposidely starts at $22,000.

Replying to: vitdoc1 (Jun 10, 2009 6:31 pm) Salesguy told me that the Prius V gets added weight with the 17 in wheels. The solar cooler is also added weight and Toyota doesn't want the combination which would result in a car that gets less than 50 mpg.

Replying to: rustyshepherd (Mar 28, 2009 1:45 pm) Neighbor just got his 2010 and he said it tracked like his Saab, cruising at 70 to 80 mph. Like on rails. By the way he got 62 MPG on that leg from Wilmington to Charlotte.
