MPG is still what you think about when you drive a 2010 Toyota Prius.

Legroom? by dodgeman07

"The specs say that rear legroom has declined by 2.6 inches..."

This is the first I've heard of this and it must be a mis-print. Also - why did the full test have no mention of interior sound levels in dB?

Overall a good review and Toyota has another winner here.

How's its wind resistance? by rustyshepherd

I've read several road tests of the third-generation Prius and none has addressed how much it is affected by crosswinds. Being blown about by wind was one of the most common complaints owners had of the second generation and I'm wondering if the new one is improved in that respect.

I would think that being just a slightly larger version of the old one it would have the same problem if not a tad more.

The 2010 Prius isn't just a "slightly larger version of the old one." It has a revised suspension for example, which could help it cope with crosswinds. It seems premature to say the new Prius will have the same problem as the old Prius until there is some evidence one way or the other.

If it is being blown around by the wind than I sure don't see how the suppension will do much good.

Yes, that's obvious.

Actually it's more than just "obvious". In the past there have been a few complaints as to the 2ND Gen. Prius's handling (and crosswind effects). As much as I often praise Toyota and the Prius I've always considered the handling somewhat of a weak link to its near perfect reputation. Crosswinds effect all smaller cars and severe crosswinds effect ALL cars. That's the price we pay for wanting cars that get premium mpg's. The 3RD Gen Prius has been getting better grades for handling and that's good enough for me to consider buying one. All the other improvements are also impressive to boot.

Actually it is more about profile than size. I was following a guy in a large pickup with a cab on the back and he was blowing all over the place. My nice aerodynamic and small Integra was not having a problem. When we stopped the guy was saying how bad the wind was and I told him I hardly noticed.

I have driven a 15 passenger van in the wind and they are also terrible despite being large and heavy.

I would guess the Prius is on par with a Matrix or something about the same size that is a hatch.

Our 2009 Honda Fit does get blown around a lot in the wind as well. Also our fuel economy drops as well. No doubt it's the light weight with the high box profile. My 2008 Civic Si completely ignored the wind even when other cars were visibly moving.
