2010 Chevy Camaro SS vs. 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T vs. 2010 Ford Mustang GT - All three cars are available with the same performance goodies for less money, but it wouldn't have changed the outcome. (more)

In 2002, astronaut Buzz Aldrin, the second human being to set foot on the moon, punched a guy in the face for accusing him of faking the moon landing. Buzz was 72 years old at the time. Go right ahead and question the existence of the 2010 Ford Mustang GT, 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T and 2010 Chevy Camaro SS and they, too, might just give you a knuckle sandwich in the kisser. Like Mr. Aldrin, they bear names from long ago that have made a collective return to the limelight. Like Mr. Aldrin, they are American heroes with unparalleled legacies reaching across decades. And like Mr. Aldrin, they have Ph.Ds in kicking ass. 2010 Chevy Camaro SS vs. 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T vs. 2010 Ford Mustang GT |

I have to admit, I was alittle disappointed with the 0-60 and 1/4 mile time. I have a 98' SS with 320 bhp and I've read performance times for the last generation SS that weren't that far off from the 426 bhp 2010 SS. Where is the 106 bhp? Where's the beef? Charger,Challenger, and Jeep SRT-8s with 425 hp have similar or better times, but are heavier (much heavier for the Jeep). The G8 GXP, which is essentially the same platform ( but slightly heavier), got a slightly (I believe on Edmunds) better 0-60 time with 415bhp. A G8 GT with 369 isnt far off. And with such a horsepower advantage over the Mustang GT, it really shouldnt have been as close. It should've beat the Mustang into dust. I mean the leftover horsepower gap could pretty much power a Honda Fit (and let me get this right? The Mustang does it on regular gas?). Don't get me wrong, I really really like the new Camaro and can't wait to test drive one, but if its performance isn't all that different from the stock car I already own (and paid for) I doubt I'd drive myself into debt to get one. Maybe it just needed to be broken in but it's like a movie you've been waiting to see, then being a little let down after you walk out of the theater

| Is it just me or is Ford going retro under the hood also. Their engine looks like the old Camaro's 5.7 V8 from the 80's. | |
| having owned a boss 302, a plymuth barracuda and a camaro 350, and read this comparison, ill take my 1972 bmw 2002 tii over any of them for overall performance. | |

Got to love edmunds unbias reviews. The camaro wins on content features against the Mustang. How can that be when the mustang has twice as many features available than the Camaro has. Mustang has 1000 watt sound system with 6 disk Na on Camaro it has only a single cd with 245 watt Nav voice activated yes on Mustang no on Camaro Voice command for radio and Air Mustang yes Camaro no Backup Cam Mustang Yes Camaro no Individual temp control Mustang yes Camaro no and thats just a few things. After seating in both cars the Mustangs interior is miles ahead the very cheap plastic interior of the Camaro in both quality and feel, but no mention of that in you review. Calling the Mustang a camry in looks is a real insult considering the 2010 Mustang especially the GT500 looks better in person than the Camaro IMHO. Looks like Edmunds been drinking the GM cool aid again

| At ~2:35 I hear "Charger" instead of "Challenger". Ooops. | |

You and MotorTrend priced Camaro as the best of the three...added that every car here of them has unique personality ! especially good words are send to Mustang.. we all thought that Camaro will kill Mustang, but Ford still can keep it Pony hot ! if it will have 50 BHP(5.0 L Boss) more it might be better than C'maro Black SS for me ! modern muscle debate ernwopr |

....and the sound of the cars...! free flow exhaust in RT ? that SS rumble is impresive, and Mustang "bullit " exchaust has also it's own flair.. |

Now that I've seen all 3 up close, i'm leaning in favor of the 'Stang. Camaro is not as gorgeous as I'd hoped, a bit tall and blocky. Color makes a big difference on the Chevy as well, the silver seems best, wasn't crazy about the car in red. Mustang is evolutionary at best outside, but I liked the previous version and think the changes sharpen the character. Challenger looks very bloated and lumpy by comparison and the interior is the worst by a long shot. It's also way too heavy and needs the 6-speed with the SRT motor. As the 'Stang keeps the Camaro in sight with the 4.6L, I'll hold off for the upcoming Boss 5.0, as long as the Ford doesn't put on too much weight like the Shelby version did, it should blow doors on both the GM and Mopar. Keeping my fingers crossed....
