2010 Chevy Camaro SS vs. 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T vs. 2010 Ford Mustang GT - All three cars are available with the same performance goodies for less money, but it wouldn't have changed the outcome. (more)
| I have no desire to own a muscle car but if you see a Camaro you just have to smile, GM killed it on the exterior of this car. Add the superior performance (at least the straight line stats) then it comes as no suprise to me that this is the chosen muscle car. Hate it or love it, the Camaro owns this segment, most of the automotive magazines have chosen the Camaro anyways | |

My dad is a diehard Chevy/GM man. I inherited his love for the bowtie: My first car was a 1973 Chevelle Coupe with 350V8 I bought from my granny (dammit, she went in to buy one of the last '72s but they made her a "deal" on the new 1973; ugly car from the 70's instead of a classic muscle car). I felt really bad that Chevy/GM - with few exceptions - has not made a car I like (style-wise) in about 40 years. Then along comes the 2010 Camaro, I can't wait to buy one ... and then the bailout/bankruptcy/government takeover. I WON'T OWN ANY CAR MADE BY A STATE OWNED ENTERPRISE, NO MATTER HOW SENTIMENTAL THE MARQUE. I will be buying Ford's exclusively, until GM and Chrysler are 100% privately held companies again. |

I have been drooling over the Camaro since the concept was first released. I figure its time to retire the 91 Z28 I have and go with the new kid on the block. But......... Right now my major issue is what the dealerships are pulling... Recently the only Camaros I have seen, were on the show room floor, both were the 6 cylinder versions and both were OVERPRICED by $5000... "Are you kidding me" was the quote from my girlfriend when we arrived to look at the supposed 2SS to find out it was a 2LT. I drove 30 minutes to go look at it after my sales man said there was one on the floor "for sale" his quote was "bring your check book" (LOL) A mile away sits one of the largest Ford dealers in the area, if not most of Florida. Looking at the 2009 and 2010 Mustangs (about 25+ on the lot) got my interest however it seems like every 15th car on the road is a Mustang. Who wants what everyone else has? Laughing at the price of the 2010 over the 2009 really is it that much better? $5k to $8k no really... So off to read reviews and study hard before I take a $34,000 hit and have to sell a kidney. It seems that the only thing the magazines agree upon comparing these three is that the Challenger is always 3rd. Other than that the Mustang or Camaro is 1st or 2nd and usually the Mustang had some extras added like the track package. The Car and Driver base price on the Mustang is off from what the local dealers starting price and if I want the track package thats a 8 week wait. I also forgot about wheel size which costs a bit extra on the Mustang when compared to the Camaro. But I can test drive a Mustang, but not a Camaro, well maybe in a few months or if Obama allows them to continue to make more or at least a 2011 model.... Needless to say if they want to sell me a car, lets get some on the lot and get the prices down to a fair level then I will fork over the $$ to drive one home. |

The cars will sell themselves, put some top-end models on the lots and quit B*!#Sh%!*ing. I am very glad I ordered mine so long ago, before the dealerships got crazy with the mark-ups. One good thing(for me) is that so far, you only see a few on the road. I'm satisfied with the price I paid, but to add an other $5K is really pushing it. Part of the problem may be that some people are going into the dealerships and buying the 6 cylinders, paying the mark-ups, just because they don't want to wait and, for some, the 8cylinder may have too much ass. It does, but only when you want it to. Seriously, you can putt-around in school zones and never worry about too many horses, or jump on the interstate and hold on.....

(I felt compelled to write this after watching a video on edmunds.com starring the 2010 Camaro, 2010 Mustang, and 2009 Challenger) I'm taking a stance. I'm calling the 2010 Camaro ugly as sin. If sin had a mug in the form of a car, it would be the new Camaro. Like most sin, I'm sure it can be fun at times - mostly at night and in low-light situations. But imagine your horror to wake up the next day and see one parked in your garage with the keys in your pocket. Would you slowly gnaw your leg off to avoid jingling the keys? You might. I don't care that it runs the 1/4 in 13.0 cranking out 426hp. That's akin to marrying a big hairy bremelo (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=bremelo) because she's got a trust fund. And this is where the analogy no longer holds. The aforementioned bremelo is most likely beautiful on the inside. Not so the 2010 Camaro. Its exterior hideousness is only matched by its interior's grotesque interpretation of the past. Lest ye think I'm making sneering remarks from outside looking in, so easy to do when you've got no skin in the game, I'll reluctantly offer that I was once a Camaro owner. I rocked a new 1988 IROC Z28, sporting a 305cid 190hp V8 with automatic trans. It was everything I thought I wanted and, moreover, the girls dug it. Mind you, I was living in Kansas in the 80's and was not above sporting a mullet to get some of that fine Great Plains Poon. So where was I? Oh yeah, sin. This car's got it in spades. I guess I wouldn't mind driving one. Too bad Chevy dealers aren't open at midnight.
