My LR2 has a real penchant for producing brake dust which darkens my wheels within 2-3 days after cleaning. I saw this new 2009 product mentioned on a blog the other day and decided to give it a try. Holy cow--- it works better than I would have imagined. After almost 2 weeks including 2 major rainstorm, my wheels are clean -- well at least cleaner than they would have been normally. The stuff was a little hard to find (3 auto store visits) and while it dries clear, it does leave a slight residue if you look very closely. But man it works. Not sure how it would do on chrome wheels given the coating effect, but on aluminum cast, it is great. Probably really toxic and poisoning the environment., But my wheels are clean! See below _______________________________ http://www.carspace.com/gkubina/Albums/gkubina%27s%20Album/Eagle1.jpg/page/photo- .html#pic Keep Clean Wheel™ – 18 oz. by Eagle One Repels brake dust & road grime for up to 2 weeks Apply after cleaning wheel (this is not a wheel cleaner) Protects wheels from corrosive brake dust Makes it easier to clean wheels every time you wash Usage directions: Make sure wheel is clean and completely dry of water before application Shake well before using Hold approximately 4 to 6 inches away from wheel surface. Spray wheel surface with a THIN, EVEN coating of product. Be sure to cover recessed areas, so the entire surface is covered. Do not touch the wheel once you have applied the product as this will remove the coating from the surface of the wheel. IMPORTANT NOTE: Surface should appear wet. During the drying process, the surface of the wheel will appear hazy for approximately 5- 15 minutes. Wait 10-15 minutes before using your vehicle. Coating will be invisible once it has dried

I guess a lot of people wax their wheels, inside and out, to make it easier to clean off the brake dust. You sound like you might be a candidate for Zaino. I was really expecting to see a pic of your LR2 wheels when I clicked through to your CarSpace album. /hint

In my opinion, waxing your wheels probably has the same affect but would tend to leave a wax buildup. The Eagle One product comes off easily with light rubbing. In fact, I touched the wheel when I first applied to see how it felt and the next day could see brake dust building up already where I touched the wheel. I just washed my LR2 Saturday and will post a pic or two of the wheels after 1 week. Thanks for the idea. |
