I have a 2008 Sienna, with 4000 kms. Initial start in morning in fine. After this if it sits for over 30 mins on startup engine turns over excessively 8-10 times before it finally goes. If vehicle sits for less time then this it starts immediately, this is consistent when the vehicle has been running, once it sits long enough that it is a cold start it doesn't happen (roughly a couple of hours). So far they have changed the fuel pump, a sensor and a relay. I am stumped and seems as though the Toyota mechs are as well. Been in the shop six times.

Could it be water in the fuel lines? Have they tried a product that addresses that issue?

I think I have the exact same problem. I too have a Sienna 2008. Starting cold in the morning is fine, but if I stop and leave it sitting for 25 minutes up to about 3h, when I go to start it again it's turns excessively before starting. I left it at the Toyota dealership about 5 times for this, they still have not been able to find and fix the problem. They changed the fuel pump assembly as well as the temperature sensor and no difference... Did you have any luck in fixing this? It's really annoying...

Just a suggestion you may want to try - before you crank it, turn the key to the On position and give the fuel pump a second or two to prime up fuel pressure. Then crank it. See if that helps.

On some Subarus that helps. Worth a try.

Bummer.

Normally I'd say spark plugs but it's too soon for an 08 to be needing those.

For the benefit of anyone who encounters this same issue, they finally brought in a specialized technician from Toyota, who authorized the replacement of the 6 fuel injectors (on warranty) and bingo, the problem is solved! After 6-7 visits to the Toyota dealership and a lot of time lost...

Oh let's see. There is clearly an electrical problem. I have an 08 sienna with 14k miles. Once or twice over last year...display on radio went out. Still playing and came back on during the ride or next time. Over the last few weeks, the car was hesitating when starting; almost like the battery was going. Unplugged the Garmin and all else to make sure nothing draining. Last night, car took 3-4 times to start even after it was used for 6 start/stops running and dropping the kids everywhere. Popped the hood, cleaned off the corrosion [bright blue by the + battery terminal]....car started fine. Checked it this morning. Started at 7 ....at 8 when I went to leave...NOTHING. At 9:30 tried again and after 3-4 tries, it started. Clock has also reset now 2 times on its own. Dealer claims battery is fine and that alternator, starter etc are fine. HELP!

it is settled...despite the "reading" that said my battery was fine, it started leaking bright blue [I assume acid] and after some complaining, they replaced it. No problem since then. Dealer is East of Pgh.
