Hi, About 2 months ago I had the automatic transmission replaced at a Toyota dealer (4Runner 2000). Since then I have driven maybe 1000 miles. A few days ago I noticed that if I shift the main gear lever from Drive (D) to 2nd gear (2), the small lever (the one that you engage 4-wheel drive) shifts into neutral after 10 seconds of driving. I have to stop, put everything into neutral to get it running again. Now, the dealer identified this problem to be in the transfer case, not in transmission, and doesn’t take responsibility for it. However, this problem had not occurred before I replaced the transmission! Could it be a pure coincidence, or a faulty replacement procedure? Too bad I did not check it right after I had the transmission replaced. To fix this problem costs about $800. I will appreciate any advice. Thank you Gregory |

Hi everyone, I'm new writing in any forum, so my apology for any mistake, and thanks for any advice. For to make it short, I got a new 4runner, from a dealer at deerfield beach, Fl. and because of my job, I was moving out to Panama, Central America. So we send the car too. Until 3 month ago this car never gave me any problems at all. I forgot to mention that all the mantinence indicated by the book was made at the dealer, (the only one) on time. This particular day, suddenly in the morning I started to feeling a weird kind of delay when the car slow down the speed, I mean the car was working right shifting gears and reach 60 mph, but when it start to decrease speed, the transmission was taken to moutch time shifting down, even it felt like neutral when I gave it gas I hear the noise in the motor, finally when transmission got the lower gear, it jump so hard, so that it, we towed to the dealer, explain what happen to the guys. After 2 weeks later, they told me "the big problem founded inside the motor" the oil was to dirty and other thinks I did'n buy it. After that I got my car again. O surprise just 2 days after that, all the warning lights where on and the car doing the same. Coming back to the dealer, this time again after almost 3 weeks, they told me the sensors are the problem, they need to be replaced, I said ok go ahead do what it is necessary I need the car, again more surprise, it takes around 20 days. At the moment, no more options we place the order. Sorry I know is a long history, after a long waiting, finally the sensor arrived they replaced finally the same manager told me that it will be no more problems. 2 days later, it was different, I put it in R and does not move, when I put it in P it goes forward, it was a mess. This time they took down the transmission and disarm it, when I sew the transmission in parts, was amazing, some parts got so hot that they change the color, and the old oil remains on these was so black and I field little like little tiny parts. For me the transmission was low in oil, but they charge me for replace the transmission oil. They said that is possible the oil pump was not working properly, I mean right now the have no clue at all. I would like to know if somebody hear something like this before, or have an idea, because they want to charge me if they fix or replace the transmission. Thanks again. |
