The airbags did not go off in the Genesis. That was the point, if you read the article you would have noticed that. The airbag not going off was one of reasons a lot of blogs caught up on this unfortunate incident.
Posting a Ferrari on a Hyundai vs Infiniti forum, thats a bit overzealous dude. Not sure if even owners of such cars visit these forums.

There could be a lot of reasons why the air bags didn't go off, but that doesn't mean the Genesis Coupe isn't safe; for starters, we have no idea what the circumstances were.
Adding to that, the driver wasn't even wearing seat belt - he/she deserved for what had happened...

Hopefully it will go off for the next guy involved in something like this.

I guess we can conclude Hyundais are safer than Ferraris.
Just kidding. May have been a test mule, not to mention it almost seems like the car hit at a 45 degree angle, so maybe it was sliding sideways when it hit the concrete (drift gone astray?).
The passenger compartment actually held up surpriginsly well given the extent of crash energy.

I have to disagree with you on placing the G37 second to the Genesis. I would have tide them the same way I would have tide the G37 and the B.W.W. when the G37 first came out. I first want to say, a better match would have been with the 370Z. The person who is going to buy the Genesis will also be looking at the 370Z and at the same time wondering how he is going to pay his rent and pay his car note. A better match would have been the 2003 G35 Aero package 6 speed coupe with 298 HP. The 2003 coupe came with the Brembo brakes, 19inch wheels, navigation, and great style, less weight, great sound and an all around sport/luxury car at a fair price. Infiniti drop the Brembo brakes after 2004 because of all of the complaints about the brakes being noisy and very expensive on pads. Now do you think the Genesis owner who can barley pay the insurance on his 2010, is going to be happy about paying for expensive noisy break pads when its time to be replaced. I see future Genesis owners with only having liability insurance after that one payment of full coverage. Not having navigation until 2011 on the Genesis is ridicules if you are trying to compete with the G37, especially when you know the G35 had navigation since 2003. I will agree with you that the leather interior in the G37 is garbage, you would think from years of complaints of the leather, that Infiniti would find a stronger type of leather mix that does not break down after a couple of months. I will give Genesis respect for building a car that can give you bang for the buck, plus I always love the little guy going against the big guys and hanging in. I look forward to the Genesis vs 370Z article. Yes I have owned the G35 and drive now the G37.

The G37 coupe is one hot sexy car. Wow.
My take now with these comparisons is each magazine just decides who they want to win. This stuff is just a product of the authors wet dreams. I mean I can come up with several reasons to bash the G37 coupe, e.g. the 370Z in faster & can be had for less. But so what, the G37 is a great product, period. Nowadays I just use these automotive magazines to look at the performance numbers. For example, I am not paying 30k+ for a "sports" car that does 0-60 in the same time as say a Toyota Rav 4 V6. So I line up my times, and drop the "crappy" cars and of the ones that are left, I pick the one with more bang for the buck. So in the coupe world, you have 328i, G37, 335i, Genesis, IS250C, IS350C. Now the 328i, IS250C automatically drop off my radar, leaving the other 4. I love my gadgets, I dont just get a luxury car with no options on it, its got to have all of them, otherwise how is it a luxury car. Genesis drops off leaving the 335i, the G37 and the IS350. Bang for the buck, the 335i fails that test leaving the G37 & the IS350. However for those craving handling and can live with the extra payout and less bells & whistles, the 335i is the choice. At the end of the day, any magazine can say whatever they want, but the truth is still out there, the Genesis is a good product but the G37 can stand its ground and this loss does not change anything.

I have owned to Nissan 350z's. When the 370 arrived I started looking at my options and drove the 370. I liked the car alot and it was definitely alor more refined than the 350z. When I looked at the price for a Touring version I decided to check out other cars. I drove over to the Inifiniti Dealer and drove the G37S coupe. And I friend encouraged me to test the Genesis.... So I did..... Even though the price was nice on the Genesis... Truth be told.... it is a Hyundai.... it does not have the true feel a luxury based coupe. Over time I can only imagine that as the interior and exterior wear down it the price difference would be felt. On top of that, I could not bring myself to thinking of pulling up to the valet in a Hyundai!
I also do not appreciate when designers rip off other peoples designs... Hyundia is notorious for copy styles from other car makers. The Genesis sedan reminds me of Dr. Frankenstien's creation, take a grill from this car, take the tailights from that car, weld it all together and that is what you get, also it amazes me that the coupe and sedan look NOTHING alike!
I Bought the G37 coupe and love it! Worth the price difference....and it has everything you can think of in it including backup camera, voice command controls, touch screen ipod controls as well as navigation!
Sorry Hyundai fans.... I could not bring myself to own a bootleg version of the original!
