I have one friend that has a 06 tiberon and another that has a elantra? I think that is what it is called... I have never really compared them with other vehicles on a shopping comparison, I have only been a civic twice..... I really dont have much to base an opinion one way or another....

As the previous owner of a Hyundai, I can say with complete confidence that after 5 years they are complete junk. Remember the old adage - you get what you pay for, and with this company that is not a lot. From unreliable cars, to a crappy dealer network who can't fix anything more complicated than an oil change, to local dealer reps that are great at excuses and short on answers. Oh and that great extensive warranty - well that's a bunch of hooey as well. A broken stereo, A/C that quit working, brake rotors that were literally welded to the hubs, fading and chipping paint - the list goes on and on. And of course Hyundai didn't cover any of it. Never again - they can take their momentum and shove it where the sun don't shine. I won't be fooled again.
READ THE FINE PRINT of their EXTENSIVE WARRANTY - what is NOT covered will surprise you, especially when you have to pay for it. That is if you can find a dealer smart enough to solve the problem.

Ok, for all the Hyundai skeptics who love to bash the car based on ignorance, and for all the potential Genesis owners.
When I went out to buy a sports coupe/sedan, I had enough budget to get pretty much any of the cars folks are mentioning in this forum: G37, Z, BMW, etc. So for me, budget was a consideration, not an issue.
Overall, the Genesis Coupe's strength is not the fit and finish. The stereo could be better. The interior materials does not give you the same type of look and feel as the G37. But then again, some of the posters here act like Infinity brand is a Lexus. I don't know if these posters were born yesterday but one of the knocks on Infinity as a luxury brand is the material quality/fit and finish.
Quite honestly, I am not totally unhappy they shaved off a couple of pounds off the car to make it more fun to drive. Because it IS fun.
I think the biggest feature is the engine. Nice power and the handling is excellent. I've actually had a few G37 owners come and ask me about the car. I bought mine (V6) for 26K. So it was way north of 15k less than the G37. I like the G37. It is a nice car. But I can thrash my Genesis around the pavement without having to worry about scratching the rims??? So for those days when I can't drive my motorcycle(Triumph) and the weather isn't agreeing with my 68 Camaro RS, I take my trusty Genesis and go to work.....
Most people in US don't know Hyundai as a car company. Car companies don't become one of the largest in the world by selling junk. Yes the Accent sucks but it is what it is. Many of the posters here will be shocked when Hyundai brings in a 60K-70K luxury sedan in a couple of years.
Kudos for Hyundai as a car company for getting to the next level.

in response i must say the difference in cost between the genesis coupe and G37 coupe is negligible. i paid 36,611 for an x coupe with prem/nav that retails for 45k. that was *before* the additional $500 incentive this october and *before* the $650 AMEX referral program. so really the final price amounts to somewhere like $35.5k. and that includes a lot of goodies like AWD, backup camera, keyless entry, etc.
and then you look at resale values. in five years when we both sell our cars, i bet the infiniti will command a much higher percentage than the genesis coupe. infiniti has been around awhile and that translates into perceived value and higher residuals. so all that money spent in the front end will be recouped at the end.

3 50% $18,325.00
4 42% $15,393.00
5 35% $12,827.50
For '10 Genesis coupe GT auto
2 69% $20,700.00
3 58% $17,400.00
4 48% $14,400.00
5 40% $12,000.00
So, at the end of 5 years, it would have cost you $23823 for G37 vs $18000 for Genesis coupe...
I always thought the resale value for hyundai was dismal, but not according to kbb...i am very surprised how kbb came to this conclusion, but if this is true, then you'd be saving more with genesis coupe.

In Europe, Hyundai's i10 and i20 models are predicted to beat most of the competition in 3 year resale values, for basically the first time. Of course these figures are just predictions but they do contradict previous experience and also initial predictions - something changed their minds.
Certainly the facts are on Hyundai's side: the cars are reliable and trouble-free, plus they come with an unlimited mile, 5 year warranty, which is transferable to the buyer (the competition generally offers 3 years at bes)t. Plus crucially the models are beginning to be respected as wise purchases -- if not exactly desirable ones, just yet -- at a time when value for money is on everyone's mind. That should help make sure they're seen as good value second-hand purchases too.
Hyundai's reliability here has been good for some time. The thing which has held back their resale values has been a lack of sheer desirability: the market in the UK is fixated with bigger brands with more recognizably European-friendly sensibilities: Ford, Vauxhall (Opel/GM), VW, Puegeot, Citroen. It'll be interesting to see whether that changes. Hyundai needs to address its perception as a value brand in Europe and spark some basic old fashioned sexiness.
Plus, I guess a car which is cheaper to begin with has less initial value to lose. You could argue that the Genesis effectively sets the baseline price point and the extra cost of the G37 is paying for something harder to define: a perception of quality and perhaps status appeal.
