#1126 of 1296 2010 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Premium AT/CVT Shifting problem by etan797733

Jul 09, 2010 (8:40 pm)

Bought brand new from the dealer on March 19, 2010, mileage todate: 1,700 miles.

From the start already noticed that when backing up and shifting from Park to Reverse, majority of the time there will be a rather big jolt accompanied with a clunking/thudding noise. The problem is more pronounced on an incline surface.

When shifting to Neutral and to Drive, there will be a little clicking noises.

Never had this problem with previous 1995 and 2005 Legacy 2,5i and 2006 Outback 2.5i.

Didn't get the time to bring the car to the dealer yet.

The engine noise is also rather loud after starting,

Anybody has the same problems?

Drove the car long distance for 300 miles on July 4th weekend. The drive was smooth and got 31 mpg.

Yours is the first I have seen of it, yet I strongly suspect you should have it looked at ASAP. It is entirely possible that something was just not assembled properly and you truly have a manufacturing defect, which is the whole point of the warranty. It is disappointing that you are experiencing the problem, but great that it manifested itself so early on so that you can have it addressed now for (hopefully) trouble-free ownership going forward.

#1131 of 1296 Steering Wheel vibration fix scheduled by birdboy

Jul 15, 2010 (12:00 pm)

FYI Just received a call from dealership informing me that technicians are coming in to fix the on going steering wheel vibration, excessive road feel, and shimmy at high speeds that I have had since I bought the 2010 outback in February. They are going by a list and have reached my vehicle.I am happy that SOA has kept their promise to me and that they have followed through with informing me. I just hope that this fix will be the end of this problem.

Does SOA designate the specific dealership that you have to go to or you can just go to any other dealership to have the problem fixed?

So far, my 2010 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Premium does not have the steering wheel vibration problem yet. The problem is with the jolting and clunking when shifting from Park to Reverse, which is very very rare even for any old old cars.

Don't know if anybody has the same problem as mine.

Our '10 OB 2.5i CVT Premium goes clunk when shifting from P to R too. Thankfully, no front end vibe. So far, the other 3 recalls have checked out OK, no repairs/replacements necessary. More recalls to come???

Good for you with the recalls, Matt. Too bad you also have the shifting problem. Did the dealer check on the shifting problem? What did they say?

I have already e-mailed the Customer Care Dept. of SOA in New Jersey about the shifting problem, they immediately responded and told me to bring the car to the dealership for check up. Didn't get a chance to do that yet.

So far haven't received any notification yet for any of the recalls in the Long Island, New York area. My only problems are the jolting and clunking when shifting from P to R, and also loud engine noise when first started, altho after a while the noise subsides but still a little loud as compared with other cars, e.g.Camry, Accord, etc. So far, don't have the steering wheel problem yet.

Hopefully, SOA will issue recalls for the shifting and engine noise problems soon.

This may well have been noted already, but the latest issue of "Drive" says that folding mirrors are standard on the 2011 Outbacks. Good move, Subaru!

I never felt the need to look into the H6 when I bought my 2010 Outback last New Year's Eve, because getting the CVT was my chief motivation. At 32+ MGP on the freeway, I've no regrets, power or otherwise.
