First Car Purchase Trouble Need advice/help by crem4ster

My wife and I went in and worked out a deal on a new Sante Fe that we were pleased with. We got the 2008 Santa Fe limited with nav and third row seating in the pearl white color for 25,500. Now after two days of the salesman telling me the car will be here, they call and tell me that they could only find the car in flordia and that they would have to fly someone out there and drive it back so it would come with 1200 miles on it (the drive from flordia to ok). Or the other option would be to take a demo with 5000 miles. My question to those who may know is why cant they put it on a truck and ship it here, no honest answer from the salesman. I am wondering if it is too much money to them. Second, if we did the demo deal they said they wouldnt be able to take that much off the price. What would be a fair discount on the demo model? thanks for any help

Tell the dealer to stay with what they said they would do. It's not your fault they sold something they could not provide. In Minnesota there is a 72 hour time period to get out of the deal. Tell them to provide what they promi sed. or get your deposit back.

There's no cooling off period in Minnesota (or any other state that I know of) for getting out of a car deal. There may be other ways to unwind a deal, but I don't think there's any 72 hour time period. And here's why I think that's so:

Minnesota Attorney General's Office

If you know something different, please post a link so I can update the What's the cooling off period to back out of my car purchase? Guide. (You may be thinking of door-to-door sales, of things like vacuum cleaners). Thanks.

Typical salesman - say and do anything to get the deal and worry about the big stuff later.

First off, having some guy drive your brand new vehicle for 1200 miles is not recommended - you won't ever know how well he drove it and it would completely destroy the whole new car experience. The adaptive transmission would have already learned their drivng style by then anyway, not yours.

Same with demo's - they've had everything kicked, not just the tires. Kids have pulled and pushed every knob, lever and switch, seat, mirror and steering wheel adjustment they can, with 5000 miles of short distance driving.

The very fact they won't give you any further discount for what is basically a USED CAR by the time you get it, shows their unwillingness to compromise. You try selling them a "brand new car" with 1200 or 5000 miles on it and see how far you get!

thanks for your help. thats what we told them was we would not do the deal if they could not take off more of a demo and price as a used car and having someone drive our car from flordia was definately not going to work either. I told them to either get it on a truck or have no deal so they decided to get it on a truck. Good thing was that if we did walk we havent given them our down payment or trade in yet and we have actually been driving one of their demos around while we wait for our car which has been over a week now. So if we did walk away all they had was paper work. But the we are supposed to pick up the car today, just hope it is the one we bought with the options we wanted. thanks for your replys

Curious, what do like more about the Santa Fe vs. the Sorento?
