Hey can anyone help- my dad bought an Ody while stationed in Japan 1995; brought it to the usa; hasn't been registered since 1998- mom just kept it in the garage- now we want to register and license it butthere is NO VIN- none in the firewal, chasis, transmission or wherever- this Ody was made for japaneese consumers and dad bought in japan- What do I do? can Honda Company help out? everyone here has Ody's with a vin- no theft van either has a whopping 225K miles on it! can't find the military papers, can't find what we call Certificate of title- Any Ideas? Colorado dumps its DMV records that are inactive every 7 years they told us we shoulda keep registering it but mom was thrifty andnever drove it..Help

Make sure it still running in good condition or no need to go further.
I think you won't pass USA emission test. How about the safety standard re bumpers and other safety feature in USA standard? I think the Japanese one is smaller in size and engine also.
A totaled 95 Ody with same color may help ...

If the vehicle was previously registered in Colorado, there should be a VIN somewhere in the vehicle. If the vehicle came without a VIN from Japan, Colorado would have issued its own number (a small placard) for the registration process provided it met all the DOT specs for US vehicles.

The best place for you to check is with your local State Patrol Office and ask for their Certified VIN inspector.

Also go to their site, http://csp.state.co.us/vin.cfm.html title for more info.

I think as long as you can prove some sort of ownership and it meets US specs, you should have no problems getting a new tittle, but you need VIN Verification first.

Good Luck,

Pat

VIN number decoding and designation is used primarily only for the North American Market.

European and other Asian markets use another nominclature systems. Over there they call chassis/frame number and/or engine number.

As last poster stated if this car was registered in RMV before then you can trace the VIN # with the old plate number. At that time a VIN # might be assigned to that car as the vehicle ID system is different in Jpan.
