#1 of 6 rear wiper blade for Outlander
Feb 11, 2009 (2:17 pm)
I found that my wiper blades suddenly all tore and needed replacing on my 2007. The drivers side (24") and passenger's side (21") front are readily available most anywhere, but I couldn't get the rear blade (dealer is a bit of a drive and I bet the markup is outrageous, but don't know it for a fact).
Parts America (Advance Auto Parts locally) has the rear blade online, but not in the local store. I found a workaround if anyone is in a bind and really can't wait to order a rear wiper. Anco makes a 12" metal backed blade (part 91-12), but it is totally different from the way the all plastic OEM wiper mounts to the motor arm. You can however snap off one plastic end stop (I chose the end closest to the motor) on the OEM backing arm for the blade and slide out the old blade rubber and slide in the blade refill from the Anco back assembly. It has the standard metal channel with detent to lock the blade in position and it will take a little patience to slide it in the channel correctly and not grab additional rubber on the new blade rubber (use needle nose pliers to assist and compress the lock).
Seems to work OK so far. You may just wish to get the OEM blade in advance either from the dealer or maybe you won't have to pay shipping if ordered though an Advance Auto store. The Trico OEM plastic blade from Advance (part 12B)costs $10 and the Anco donor blade was about $6 at my neighborhood auto parts store.

I'm going to try that. I got the front blades, and the parts store also told me the rear blade was dealer item only. Last time I got the oil changed I forgot to check the price, but I figured I'd try to refill the blade myself.

Comem47....I noticed in one of your posts a reference to Rochester NY. I live in this region and am considering the purchase of an 08 Outlander. Local dealer is Marina Mits...Is this your dealer? Trying to learn a bit about them.
Appreciate anything you can share

Yes, that's who I purchased it from. Like a lot of dealers I didn't particularly care for the sales experience, but there are only two Mitsu dealers in the Rochester area and they gave me the best trade in. The service dept seems OK for my limited exposure to them (seemed quick and competent). Just be prepared for the stereotypical car dealer shenanigans during the dealing(or shop around as you can buy anywhere, like Syracuse or Buffalo and still have it serviced there if it's the closest place for warranty work) If you are not trading I would expect to get a much better deal than I did from the banter on this list and I would really expect them to follow suit or look around the state a while. For some reason the other local dealer, Cortese, was really loading up their cars and they were listing for significantly more at the time. They were doing the old trick of tacking on misc junk like fabric protection for ridiculous markups. The Hyundai dealers, for example, weren't pulling this crap and were more laid back, but I really wanted the Outlander and for the most part I'm real happy with it. I got my 2007 LS AWD in the fall 0f '07. The world has changed a lot since then so happy hunting.

Many thanks for that information.I am leaning toward the XLS. They have one on their lot. I was just looking to compare the many different choices out there from Toyota, Kia, Ford, etc and I told them that. We took a test drive and I did like the truck but still wanted to compare to a couple more. The salesman asked me to meet the manager and I was immediately offered the truck for what he claimed to be the invoice. I got the sob story of how he won't make any $$ and I just nodded.
I checked the $$ when I got home and he was within $150 of the listed invoive I can find on line. The real hook is the 5 yr at 0% being offered by Mitsu. Might actually pick the 2009 Ford Escape instead as I am close to VanBortel who is an exceptional dealer selling near invoice.

Yes, VanBortel has a good reputation. The new Forester wasn't out yet or I might have test driven one of those at their Subaru dealership (but Subarus aren't given away and seem expensive compared to the Outlander). At least the new Forester is large enough in size to be considered (the older Subarus were too small for me).
My LS gets in the high 20's on highway(best so far 27) which I think is good for a 6 cylinder that can tow 3500 lbs. If 4WD/AWD and towing aren't important then the choices open up quite a bit.I love the R.F. sound system sound quality, but there are quirks like the display washing out in sunlight that make for compromise. For price and warranty I'm happy though
