2002 Chevy Silverado 1500 possible oxygen sensor by Cory1975

I took my truck to Part Source when the engine light came on. They hooked up thier code reader to it and it said that it could be a misfire or an oxygen sensor in bank 1.

I replaced the spark plugs and the light went off after being reset. On the drive back home, the light came back on. The current symptoms are a rough idle, no power when you step on the accelerator, cannot climb hills, and consumes double the fuel it should.

I am inclined to believe it is the oxygen sensor, but I am told there are 4 for my truck. I can't afford a diagnostic because they want to charge me 125 dollars, plus I have to buy the part which I am under the impression is about 160 dollars, and then the labour for it.

Does anyone have any ideas, or suggestions for a low cost solution?

Take it to an auto parts store and have them download the trouble code. It should tell you which sensor is bad. To change the problematic sensor requires a special socket which can be bought at that parts store along with an aftermarket O2 sensor. That's about as inexpensive as it's going to get.

I scrounged for the money for a proper diagnostic and it turns out both upstream o2 sensors need to be replaced and the max airflow sensor as well. The damage is going to be 1000 dollars. Thanks for the reply
