My 1993 ford explore 4x4 won't engage! dash button has no light or working function, can something else be the culprit to the front wheels not engaging?

I had the same problem it was the dash switch that was bad... 25 dollars at a junk yard for a used switch ... he had one under the counter said it was a common problem ...
