My wife and I have been discusing the purchase of the Camaro ever since we saw it last fall at the Texas State Fair and had decided we would purchase one at some point. We went and checked one out at a dealer and while driving off we both looked at each other and said "that's not going to work". The visibility especially from the front windshield made me feel like I was looking through a narrow slot. The side windows I might could have handled. I actually did feel a little claustrophobic. I did not drive it and might give Chevy another shot a me, but I was disappointed at first look because I think they got everything else right. Don |

Replying to: iwant12 (May 25, 2009 2:15 pm) Anyway, about the trunk. The opening is a bit smaller than the opening of most cars, but the trunk space inside is rather roomy. Additionally, the backseat folds flat to allow for great cargo room. While the opening may look small at first (relatively), it really isn't as much of a hinderance as you would expect. For our street teams we have large A-signs we take out to display near the vehicle and it is pretty much the exact size of the bottom of the trunk. We fit it in through the trunk opening and carry it with the backseat upright, no problem. Also, to address visibility in the last post.. it's a sports car, not an SUV. The visibility is not any less than what you would find in a comparible vehicle. My mom drives a Cobalt and I found the visibility to be less than that of my Cavalier (RIP), but it was because of the sportier design and it was something that I quickly became accustomed to. Side and rearview mirrors are in our vehicles so that we don't have to dangerously turn our heads while driving anyway. I really urge you to test drive the car and I think you'll find that it truly is a great car and pretty much everything you would want and expect in a sports car. If you're in the SoCal area, let me know if you want to come out and see the car in person (sorry, no test drives!) and learn about it from a product specialist (no sales/dealers) a weekend we're out and I'd be happy to show you around the car.. I think you'll like what you find.

I finally got my first up-close look at the new Camaro, and I have to say that I'm more than a little bit disappointed. Granted, it has all the advertised horses, so it's not lacking in performance; but performance alone isn't enough to get me to take on a rather substantial new car payment. I was hoping they'd make some improvements from concept car to finished product; but unfortunately, that hope was dashed for me today. In addition to a very uninspired interior and lack of visibility from inside the car, the outside appearance just isn't that appealing to me. I was really hoping that they'd do what Ford did with the Mustang, i.e. take the best parts of the late 1960's models, do a little bit of tweaking to update it for the new millenium, and create a classic looking vehicle. Instead, Chevy chose to completely squash the headlight area in the front end, not to mention the really weird looking tail -- although I understand they have after-market fixes for that end of the car. I seem to be the only one complaining, though, so maybe it's just me. I'm guessing the intention was to make it look "mean" from the front; but to me, it just looks like an elephant took a moment to sit on the very front of the hood. I'm sorry, but even though I've been a GM guy for most of my driving life, it looks like I'm going to have to look elsewhere for my next mid-range sports car. |

Hi everyone, I am in the market for a new camaro but unfortunately as everyone knows this car is in short supply in dealerships due to its high demand. I have only seen them from the outside but have yet to sit or drive one. I don't feel comfortable pre-ordering a car that I have never driven or sat in. It's like buying a house before stepping foot in one and inspecting it thoroughly. I'm on a quest to test drive one before I place a pre-order with a dealership. My big question is: Does anyone know if there can be any haggling on the price for a pre-ordered vehicle? The sales guy was drilling me with the fact that pre-orders can only be placed at MSRP only. Any truth to this?

OK boys and girls, here it is... And this is only an opinion of a VERY satisfied Camaro owner....I got my Camaro a few days ago and it is AMAZING! Red Jewel Tint, 19's in front- 20's in the back- HOT car! This car is VERY nice to drive, alot of muscle, and I've had complete strangers ask if they can take photos of my car. The car is solid, handles incredibly, and I'm averaging 20.3mpg in the city with the 6speed manual. I have absolutely no problem with visibility. Backing up or seeing my blind spots is no problem for me. Adjust the mirrors and just drive! My wife was always concerned about the ride. My Mustang GT(that I had 'back-in-the-day') was too rough for her and she was anticipating a rough ride from the Camaro. Her first words from her first ride were, "WOW, It's a really smooth ride, and quiet, too." She loves the car.(SCORE!) To me, it invites you to drive. The seats are designed to keep you upright in the tight corners, but the car doesn't role! You have to really work hard to get the car 'upset', and the grip is amazing! I was concerned about how the car would drive in heavy, stop-n-go-traffic, Unreal! 426hp, 6-speed manual, and it's SO easy to drive-especially in the city. I've never been a person that was committed to particular brand of vehicle. I've owned multiple brands of cars and trucks, I guess I figure that every brand will have the good, the bad, and the WTF! As long as the longevity of the car plays out(which depends greatly on how you maintain your vehicles), I will be exremely happy with this car. We have a Jeep and a new Durango, so my plan was to have my'play car' on the side. Scratch that. Not every detail is perfect, by far. The light switch is somewhat hidden by the steering wheel. My, my.. Once I quickly dicovered it, set it to auto, problem solved. I didn't get the B.A. stereo system. My stereo plays one disc at a time! oh, you can only play one at a time on ANY stereo system...I kinda like the XM satelite anyway. I'll have to start a "Replace the Pirellis" fund, but that's just part of owning a hot-rod. For anyone out there contemplating the purchase of the car, Drive it.. I haven't driven an automatic or the 6 cylinder, but I've driven mine alot in a small amount of time. It's fun, it's smooth, and it's got the power. I know not everyone likes the car. Some say don't buy the first year one comes out. Well, I figured that GM has been working on this for long enough to puy out a decent car. It's a hybrid of existing technology(successful technology i.e.Vette, Caddy, etc.). The prices will probably go up, not down. I now have a publicly acknowledged, government backed 5-year-100,000 mile warranty. Anyone can find faults with just about anything, but if you read this, maybe you'll give it a drive and see for yourself.
