#19 of 207 Mitsubishi Montero Sport 4WD
Nov 07, 2008 (4:36 pm)
I am looking for a used vehicle since mine is dead!! Found a maroon Montero Sport for $3800 and is a 2000 model. Read some of the blogs and other info on here about this SUV and wondering overall what are the things I need to look at and for when I go back and look at it tomorrow. Oh yea, it has 170,000 miles already, a Honda dealer, that i stopped at yesterday said that most people drive around 18,500 miles a year, give or take some, instead of the 12,500 miles a year that i read in the Kelly Blue Book and NADA book. Is this true, and how do I check the timing belt or chain cause i think that is what is wrong with mine. (A 95 Honda Accord LX but can't get anyone to look at it without it costing out the wazzuuu.) I don't know anyone that has owned a Montero and are the parts expensive for them and the labor. Am single and don't have alot of money alot of the time to put into a vehicle. Am dilligent on the oil, antifreeze and other fluid changing. THAT is a must to keep any vehicle running smoothly and maintenance free.

I know that you have to remove the manafold for is their another way. If so some one please let me know.
#21 of 207 check engine light transmition trouble?
Feb 23, 2009 (11:37 pm)
The check engine light on my 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Sport turned on and a couple of days later the vehicle tremble, and surged and shut off when I came to a traffic stop. This happened twice, after that the auto drove normally.
A day later the car would not move past 3-5 miles an hour and the transmition seem to slip.
Is there a sensor in this vehicle that can cause a transmition failure? or is there another reason for this?
Has anyone else experienced this problem, and if so, what was it?

#24 of 207 Check Eng LIght Tune Up NO help-
Jan 24, 2010 (4:07 pm)
Light on took to Advance and they read it Multiple Cylinder Misfire everyone concured that is needed a tuneup I took it in for tune-up and oil change which is done every 3-5 k Wires plugs coil pack and PC Valve included 75K mileage low... On drive home doing same thing and just as bad Looked under it to see if something leaking and pipe glowing red on passenger side before 1st catalytic converter. I have 2 on this and it Y's out. Now they say probably need new catalytic converters and probably need both. Someone else said perhaps it is in the fuel tank and needs a fuel cleaner or just keep driving it I am concerned with the red glowing pipe to drive it so it is parked........ Just spent around $450 before gettng into the expense of catalytic converters is there anything else to check.....or do I just go with what they say.....Saying 550 for parts plus labor is this right? Otherwise car has been great.

Hi, I'm a GM/Ford tech, Looking for some help. Read a few of the discussions and got some answers. However, this thing has some other issues. 1st: Oil Leak (lots of oil)- coming from what I beleive is the cam covers in the back of the heads. Normal??; 2nd: Battery light/Red brake light came on- Battery at 12.08 volts but not dropping off while running, load system down with lights, wipers, A/C, etc. only went down to 11.98 volts and held. Seems like alternator is trying. But not real sure.; 3rd: Engine Light on- P0421 Catalyst warm up- the cat is covered by oil (thinking oil may be leaking into it and burned it up), P0403 EGR Solonoid Circuit- Checke voltage and have 12 volts supplied, vacuum check moved EGR valve. Don't have a scan tool to activate the solonoid, do these commonly fail?? Looking for some help, Thanks in advance.
