I own an 2006 NC Mx-5. It is my third Miata. The changes that Mazda has made to the rocker sill skirts have successfully addressed my one criticism with the styling of this car: that the fender flares looked tacked on and somewhat ugly, instead of tastefully integrated into the car's design. Now the car looks right. My only other significant criticism of the NC Mx-5's body concerns its functionality. Unfortunately that does not seem to have been addressed. The opening of the trunk is too shallow, making it impossible to load large items (even a full-sized tire) into the sufficiently large space inside. I would think that Mazda could open up access to the Mx-5 trunk by cutting out some of the rear horizontal side of the trunk and then extending the rear edge of the trunk lid downwards to fill the resultant void. Hopefully the designers of the next, ND Mx-5 will address this functionality issue. I wonder if the suspension improvements bring the 2010 Mx-5 up to or, better yet, beyond the specifications of the 2007 Mx-5 with the MS-R "trunk kit?" That would make autocrossers very happy... |

In those cases it's hard to justify spending $35k on a toy. I'm shopping for new hardtop Miatas at $22k (no kidding) freight included. That's more like a realistic price tag on a toy. Hence the Miata lives on, and yet another roadster goes to the grave. RIP S2000. Your price tag killed you. |

This may be the best part for me: there's a new cupholder within the door pocket that doesn't foul your knees The old one really annoyed me. I like the headlights better, no longer the old pill shape, now more cats' eye. Dunno about the grille, though, I feel mixed about that. The interior is a bit warmer, minus the piano black trim (too dark with the current black interior). Love that raspberry chocolate leather interior color. Gorgeous. I'm not even looking at the Recaros. |

Can someone clarify if the updates mentioned in this article apply to the model that is soon to be released in the US, or to a model being released next year? One reason I ask is the late release of the models in the US has led many to believe this will be marketed as a 2010 car. Plus the "facelift" and most other changes mentioned in this article were also mentioned in the October article referencing this years car. So, I'm just a bit confused... I like the updated version of this car VERY much, especially the tuned suspension. If those changes aren't on the soon-to-be-released version, I would probably order different options... Will the improvements mentioned be in this years model or next?

I may buy one of those left over 2008s tonight. The discount was too hard to resist. A year ago the hard tops were $25k and up, I'm looking at under $21k! Swee-eeeet! I'll have to deal with that bottle holder in the door, maybe pad it somehow if it keeps bothering me. |
