First time since I bought the veracruz that it has been warm enough to have all the windows down, can't believe I didn't check this when I purchased the vehicle. The 2nd row windows don't go all the way down. In fact they don't even "safety stop" as well. They go almost all the way down but still stay up about 2 inches or so. I have no idea why this is the height they went with as they are almost all the way down but not. If someone wanted to rest their arm on the sill they have to put it on top of the glass. It makes no sense. Either half way down or all the way down, not 2 inches from down. Heck it might just be an inch and a half. Silly. Regardless, has anyone had the safety stop removed so they go all the way down or does anyone even know if that is possible? I have a mechanic I took my previous vehicle to exclusively and I plan on asking him about this so I will post here if I find out the info first. No reason they should not go all the way down.

Nah, the safety stop was that half way down window thing where children or dogs could not leap out of the moving vehicle. It was an 80's thing I think.

Replying to: worldrevolver (Feb 13, 2009 7:54 am) I used to have a 79 LTD wagon, and always wondered why the back windows only went down halfway, until I took the door panel off and realized the window width exceeded the door width halfway down. I have a 99 F350 crew cab, the rear windows go all the way down too. If the rear door has an arch for the rear wheel, that limits how far down the window can go. |

Yeah that might just be it. The design of the window itself. Makes good sense. My pop has a Tucson and the windows go all the way down so that made me think it was something odd not having the Veracruz windows go down all the way. Another off-topic but cool touch in the Tucson is the front door panel plastic pocket things. (not sure what the correct term is) The place where you put things you want to slide around and annoy you or just collect for future disposal. Anyway, they flare out at the front to act as additional drink holders. Clever and not present on the Veracruz. It's a shame useful features don't make it across all models within a make. Also to add to the 2nd row windows action, I called my dealer and spoke with the service department. They said no go on the windows going down all the way by altering them or removing anything. They had no explanation, just said they don't go down all the way. I may just take it over to my local repair shop and see if they will remove the panel just so I can see with my own eyes if it can be done or not. |
