Comparison Test: 2010 Honda Insight vs. 2009 Toyota Prius - You might remember the original Honda Insight. When introduced in 1999, it was the first hybrid vehicle sold in the U.S.A., an affordable technical tour de force that achieved spectacular fuel economy by adding a battery-assisted electric motor to the powertrain. But as a diminutive two-seater, it certainly wasn't a car for the masses. (more)

They were willing to deal, but frankly we liked the Insight better for the money. And we were told that the 2010 Prius would have been even more expensive. Yes, the Prius had some neat bells and whistles available, but that would have priced it well over $30K. |

If you were going to buy a Honda, which would you get and why? I'm trying to decide among the three.

I can get better mileage in a Corolla, Focus, Fusion or a plethora of more substantial, better made, larger and more solid cars. What's the point of the Insight? The Fit is a much better choice and is cheaper. |

Immature response "I can get better mileage in a Corolla, Focus, Fusion or a plethora of more substantial, better made, larger and more solid cars". Prove it ! No you cannot. Again another immature response "What's the point of the Insight? The Fit is a much better choice and is cheaper". Nothing to do but to log onto a forum and bad mouth a car you no nothing about and do not have. Nothing to back up your claim and just acting like a young kid that has nothing better to do. Glad many have better sense and ignore such ranters coming onto a forum and complain with nothing that proves his/her/it's claim. Here is a vehicle mileage link. Look at it and prove the better gas mileage from any other car except the Prius link">http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm Corolla mileage link http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm Ford Focus http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm Ford Fusion http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm

It makes you seem very insecure with your purchase decision. I honestly believe the Insight looks like a cheap, poorly made vehicle, and someone can get nearly as good mileage with a mild hybrid or non-hybrid vehicle, and save tons of money in the process. The fact you apparently disagree is what makes a market. A base Corolla manual gets nearly as good mileage as the Insight, and is far more substantial. A Fit is even better than the Corolla on the mileage front.

However I think your comments are indeed obviously biased (as are the other posters). This forum isn't about comparing the Insight to a Corolla. This particular forum really is about the Prius and the Insight. In any configuration you are looking at the Insight is always cheaper. The Insight is about as cheap as anything on the market, so I'm not sure how you save a ton of money even comparing it to a Corolla. And with your logic, I'm not sure why you wouldn't be looking at a manual stripped Corolla rather than a Prius. If that suits your needs then yes a $16,000 Corolla would save you a ton of money over a nice $30,000 Prius. If car buying was all about saving money there would not be a lot of cars in the market. |

Simply, this is demand and supply, and neither Honda or Toyota is doing anything to do stop this robbery by these dealers(atleast in seattle area that is case for both Honda and Toyota dealers). |
