Comparison Test: 2010 Honda Insight vs. 2009 Toyota Prius - You might remember the original Honda Insight. When introduced in 1999, it was the first hybrid vehicle sold in the U.S.A., an affordable technical tour de force that achieved spectacular fuel economy by adding a battery-assisted electric motor to the powertrain. But as a diminutive two-seater, it certainly wasn't a car for the masses. (more)

"...(the Insight) was extremely narrow...."

I am curious about this observation. Narrow as compared to what?

Its not narrow as to some other smaller cars. The individual does not like Insights which is the reason he is ranting. The Honda fit is also smaller, and so are some Toyota cars as well.

I am 6-3 and have no issues with the Insight I have. Yes, it is a compact car but that does not mean its uncomfortable. As far as cheap looking, the car does not have gold plated anything and does not have Leather at this time, but the interior is just fine, but yes, it does not have the more expensive stuff that a Prius will have and will pay for as well.

When the first Prius came out I could not find myself to liking it for the Interior lack of quality, comfort nor the dash layout. The new 2010 Prius is a lot better but for me, the front end of the Prius was not to my liking, nor was the off center to the right instrument panel. Each his/her own as far as what one likes. I do not go ahead and bad mouth another car as the poster did above and those that do I ignore as being immature.

Go sit in one, take a test drive and buy what you want, and do not listen to those immature ranters on any forum. Plenty of different cars for all of us to purchase

I just looked it up, and the Insight is 1.2 inches narrower than the Prius. I was very curious as to why someone would call the car "extremely narrow" as it did not appear to me to be that way. I think you explained it well. Thanks!

I have an Insight on order - we compared it to the 2009 Prius as our Toyota dealer had a row of them still sitting on the lot. They were willing to deal, but frankly we liked the Insight better for the money. And we were told that the 2010 Prius would have been even more expensive. Yes, the Prius had some neat bells and whistles available, but that would have priced it well over $30K.

If you were going to buy a Honda, which would you get and why? I'm trying to decide among the three.

And there is probably a Honda site devoted to that question where you could find better information. Check out the main Honda forums.

lol.

This car is the worst made Honda ever, and that includes the early 70s.

I can get better mileage in a Corolla, Focus, Fusion or a plethora of more substantial, better made, larger and more solid cars.

What's the point of the Insight? The Fit is a much better choice and is cheaper.

"This car is the worst made Honda ever, and that includes the early 70s".

Nothing to substantiate this rant. Immature response

Prove it ! No you cannot. Again another immature response

Nothing to do but to log onto a forum and bad mouth a car you no nothing about and do not have. Nothing to back up your claim and just acting like a young kid that has nothing better to do. Glad many have better sense and ignore such ranters coming onto a forum and complain with nothing that proves his/her/it's claim.

Here is a vehicle mileage link. Look at it and prove the better gas mileage from any other car except the Prius

Seriously? So where does that put you on the "better sense" meter?

This is the funniest thread I've seen in a while

If you are such love with the Insight, I'm happy for you.

You're way too defensive when it comes to other people expressing their genuine observations about the shortcomings of the vehicle, and shouldn't overreact the way you do when they simply express their opinions. It makes you seem very insecure with your purchase decision.

I honestly believe the Insight looks like a cheap, poorly made vehicle, and someone can get nearly as good mileage with a mild hybrid or non-hybrid vehicle, and save tons of money in the process.

The fact you apparently disagree is what makes a market.

A base Corolla manual gets nearly as good mileage as the Insight, and is far more substantial. A Fit is even better than the Corolla on the mileage front.
