Comparison Test: 2010 Honda Insight vs. 2009 Toyota Prius - You might remember the original Honda Insight. When introduced in 1999, it was the first hybrid vehicle sold in the U.S.A., an affordable technical tour de force that achieved spectacular fuel economy by adding a battery-assisted electric motor to the powertrain. But as a diminutive two-seater, it certainly wasn't a car for the masses. (more)

I enjoyed it much better than being attacked simply because of my screen name!

Well, it is a forum for comparing the Insight to the Prius.

Yes, it is a discussion forum to discuss facts, and not a forum to point out people's favoritisim. If it were, I would have pointed out your Toyota bias.

Or versa visa

An article from the Times and any speculation as to what it means certainly is not fact. I'm guessing I'm alot more open minded than most as I'm not a Prius nut or a tree hugger and the Prius is one of three cars I'm considering (no, one of them is not a stripped Insight)

"Insight Becomes First Hybrid Vehicle to Rank as Best-Selling Vehicle in Japan"

TOKYO, Japan, May 11, 2009 - Honda Motor Co., Ltd. announced that Insight ranked as the industry's best-selling car among new vehicle registrations in Japan for the month of April 2009, with sales of 10,481 units (source: Japan Automobile Dealers Association). It is the first time in history for a hybrid model to be the industry's best selling vehicle in Japan for any monthly sales period.

Since its introduction on February 6, 2009, (in Japan), the all-new Insight has been very well received by a wide range of customers due to its excellent environmental performance, easy-to-use packaging, light and comfortable driving and affordable pricing.

I guess I'll play along with you a while longer on this. As suspicious as you are about Toyota, I don't imagine you feel like Honda perhaps manipulated the hype and introduction in the homeland to create this situation?

The 2010 Prius first month sales will be limited only by the amount of cars they can ship over. And that is in the time of one of our worst recessions. The real story for Toyota and Honda will be to see how many are sold in April 2010.

Yes, Honda bribed all of those people to buy an Insight.... How devious!

No they didn't bribe them. But if you think having the introduction timing coordinated well with the deliveries and the hype are not all orchestrated to give that result then you're blind. Toyota is doing the same thing. The introduction will probably be on the first of the month while they load up dealerships with as much inventory that they can get here and they will show a large first month sales

I didn't see the Insight numbers for the US. Did they break records?

Never mind. this is going no where. I'm not taking up for Toyota or critizing Honda, just pointing out the companies all do the same thing. This originally started out calling Toyota deceptive simply because they made an announcement at the Insight opening. I've seen nothing deceptive in your arguments, just a lot of speculation from journalist.

Bottom line is you have a cheap Honda Hybrid and there is a market for that. Enjoy it and quit worrying about the hundreds of thousands that will be driving a loaded Prius.

I just looked and I see you just joined the forums two days ago. I assume it's just to make yourself feel good about your decision. You seem to change the subject and throw out meaningless information, so.....I'm done with this conversation.

You seem to change the subject and throw out meaningless information...

Wrong. The subject has never changed. It has been on-topic 100% of the time. And the information provided has been far from being meaningless.

It wasn't Honda that announced a low price for a car that doesn't exist, with features that are unknown, and on a car that won't be released for months. You know the one - the car that the New York Times said "good luck" in finding one!

And you are right - I should have joined this website six months ago when I wasn't looking for a car. My apologies.

I agree with one thing - it will be fun to watch the sales numbers for both the Insight and the Prius!

I am happy to let this discussion die. But somehow I doubt you will let it.

Insight Is Very Cheaply Put Together And Tinny by mikemartin

I saw the new Insight yesterday. A local dealer had about 12 of them on his lot.

I was extremely disappointed.

The Insight had cheap trim, cheap door handles, was extremely narrow, and the interior was very industrial grade.

I can't see how the Prius won't absolutely best the Insight in this respect.
