They are waiting for their envelope filled with cash from the automakers before they set the tax credit.

If you order before 3/31/2009, the tax credit is $3400. If you order 4/1 through 8/31, the credit is $1700, then it drops to $850, and after (I believe) 12/31, it is $0.
Also with the bailout legislation passed in February and signed by President Obama, the sales tax/excise tax on a new car purchased in 2009 after the bill was signed is a tax deductable expense (not a credit). The tax credit is based on the order date, not the delivery date. I ordered one Sunday.

Here is a link for the amount. The dates have been posted by Ford.

a 4-cyl brain or a hybrid common sense? by etanretla

creating a hybrid is meant to increase fuel economy.
why? because the price of gas is rising continuously.
at least thats what i would think the argument is for an average consumer like me.
so if the fusion is in the same class as the camry and accord, why does it cost so much more?
seriously, at what point does it make sense purchasing a ford hybrid over a camry hybrid or a 4-cyl accord?

The camry hybrid and Fusion hybrid are similarly priced from what I've seen. But yes, the hybrid will cost more than the 4-cyl ICE only models.

Dumb Americas by wiskyjax

It all comes down to how Americas are dumb. European cars have been getting 40+ mpg for the last 20 years. All Americans need to do is eat a little ego and drive smaller cars. If you want the gas millage put the extra $20,000 in the pocket and buy a yaris!

At 6'5" I'd love to fit in a Fit or Yaris, but I'm afraid I'm "stuck" driving a 30+ mpg Accord.

Now, how about those clean diesels? I'd take a 250lb-ft Accord/Fusion/Altima that gets closer to 40mpg any day. A Yaris? Please... I like myself too much to put myself in that bore-box.

Is anyone checking ACTUAL mileage? by ballyshannon

Considering a hybrid, I've been reading a ton of user reports and reviews with everyone saying they're getting XX mileage ACCORDING TO THE ONBOARD COMPUTER, but has anyone actually checked the mileage the old fashioned way of filling the tank, driving maybe 100-200 miles or even near empty, refilling the tank making note of the gallons pumped/miles driven, THEN checking the mileage? I've had a couple vehicles with onboard mileage readouts that when compared to the actual mileage weren't at all accurate.

I've been on the Prius, Insight, and now the Fusion forum and have yet to read about anyone manually checking mileage, but rather believing 100% what the computer is telling them. Who cares if you get 55 or 65 mpg for a brief time on a short trip other than bragging rights for that brief timeline? The bottom line is the combined MPG you got on the tank you just ran out.

Problem is we've become content with believing and placing complete trust in what we see because, well, ..... that's what it says. Unfortunately we've stopped using our own heads.

I'd love to hear some actual MPG reports from owners. Who knows, maybe the results will be pretty close....and then, maybe not.

If you say you've searched these various boards and not found postings about actual vs displayed MPG, you haven't looked very thoroughly as they are normally a central point of discussion. Most of the comments on those forums are not from people who have "stopped using our own heads" but rather curious types who want to see how accurately the designers of the vehicles could really get the displayed MPG compared to what actually got pumped into the tank at fillup.

I had my Prius for over 120k miles and logged every single fillup and compared that to the displayed MPG... I have had a FFH for 5k now and have done the same. In each case the displayed MPG is normally 2-3 MPG higher in the Prius and 1-2 MPG higher in the FFH, just based on my experiences. YMMV.

Jeff...The fact that you log every fill-up is exactly what I was looking for and I'm glad to hear you're doing it. I appreciate you providing that info. I've read a few hundred posts over the past couple weeks, none of which mentioned a word about logging fill-ups and checking MPG the way you're doing it. Unless someone specifically states they've checked their MPG manually vs displayed as you've done in your reply, I'm not going to assume anything. And I'd think the reading of a few hundred posts would be a fairly thorough search effort on my part.

You say actual vs displayed MPG is normally a central point of discussion on these boards and imply that there are plenty of "curious types" who in fact do compare, so if you'd be so kind, please point me to them. I do seriously want to read some of these posts to get a better idea of actual mileage in various driving conditions. If there's a different section of this forum in which this methodology is discussed and I'm just missing it, please direct me to that section.

http://www.priusonline.com or http://www.priuschat.com should have plenty for the Prius.

http://www.fordfusionforum.com has several postings about MPG.

http://ffh.sqaurespace.com is a private blog which covers MPG and a host of other topics about the FFH.
