I've only known two hybrid owners that went with low rolling resistance tires and both of them chenged them out for regular passenger car tires within three weeks. In absolute dry conditions they were acceptable, but any kind of conditions made them feel unsafe enough to get them to replace the tires.

It's sort of a sliding scale...

Mileage Traction/handling

Each of us is going to be comfortable at a different point.

Great Deal for $18K by uofmg35

Amazing that it comes in $5K less than a Prius. But I don't know how many people can stomach looking at that dash every day. Honda continues to overstyle their interiors.

And the Civic Hybrid cost $5K more also.

The 2mpg difference would be barely noticeable to most drivers, some may even get better mileage in the Insight.

The $5K sticker price difference will be very noticeable to all drivers.

It managed 0.79g of lateral grip, which is pretty good. If that improves with better tires, well, even better.

Also, folks, look at the as-tested 52 mpg, plus the fact that it's 2.5 seconds quicker to 60mph than the Civic. Killer balance of power/efficiency.

This may make the HCH obsolete.

It's a deal, especially since the Prius has moved upmarket, leaving a void for the Insight to fill.

The HCH does kind of become irrelevant at this point, though... Especially if, in future years, the Insight line up gets expanded with a leather option on EX models.

$5K less than a comparable Prius and I only give up a few MPG? Plus I get a car that doesn't handle like a sofa on wheels? Sounds like a deal to me...

Insight vs. Prius? by johnzocco

Why the comparison? The Insight is a compact, even more so than the Civic; the Prius is midsized. I drive a 2008 Prius with package 2. I bought it in March 2008; I got $1700 off MSRP. The Prius is roomier, faster and more economical than the Insight or the Civic Hybrid. I like Honda; I think they make great cars, but just because they're all hybrids, I guess it's inevitable that they be compared to one another. But would you compare a Camry with a Corolla, or an Accord to a Civic? I don't think so. Be that as it may, let's get real. The Prius is not a driver's car. It is, however, a great city and freeway car, due to its high mileage, roomy interior and versatility as a hatchback, plus some of us do care about the environment. Most of us do not do corners at 70 mph. I have stability control in mine. It handles and brakes just fine; just don't expect BMW behavior. It is a great car for what it's intended to do. If you want to have fun, get a Mazda 3 or better if you can afford it a BMW. What I don't get is why can Toyota come up with a midsized car that is roomier, faster and more economical than either Hondas who are compact? And the new 2010 Prius will be coming out soon, and it promises to be even roomier, faster and more economical. I tip my hat off to Toyota and I salute Honda.

The dash on the new Insight is wonderful compared to the dash on the Prius. Anyone who buys the Prius with that dash is an idiot. I would buy the Insight just because the dash is better than the Prius. That alone is the kicker.

Then there's a LOT of idiots out there.

Have you seen the dash on the 2010 Prius? Looks a lot nicer than the current dash, IMO.

I apologize for saying idiot. I am an idiot for saying that. After a posted, I looked at it and wished I could take it back. Yes, there are a lot of idiots out there. The Prius is everywhere. What I should have said was that "I personally prefer the dash of the Insight and do not care for the dash on the Prius. When I drive a car I prefer to look straight ahead to the gauges, not to the right. Sorry.
