#1480 of 2056 Re: CXL White Diamond Tricoat paint 2011 CXL [bwia]

bwia: Rare bird indeed. Four 1500 mile trips since 7-10 and we have seen a total of FOUR (4) 2010/2011 Lacrosse models and two new regals. since GM sells 4X the number of Buicks in China as in USA they must all be there!
The extra cost for certain color choices seems to be a marketing gimmick from our viewpoint. The paint on our "standard" color Quicksliver 2010 CXL looks great to us with the 18" alloy wheels. The black option looks outstanding with the 18" chrome wheel option - but don't see any of those on the road. agree with you on the white- car looks washed out. Regarding your ? on tricoat providing extra protection. I believe the only protection is the final clearcoat paint level that protects the finish.

Anyone know exactly how the spoiler is attached to trunk. Salesman tells me they are installed at dealer v. factory. Why?
My concern is that quality control is local. If dealer just drills holes in trunk lid it invites future rusting if not properly painted first and it would not be baked on. Four year paint guarantee is nice but I hope to have car longer.
This is no little concern to me as a past Bonneville rusted badly around holes where trim was attached.

I have the 2010 Lacrosse, I ordered the trunk spoiler from the dealer at $200.00plus dollars, they wanted a hefty price to install it, the body shop i used for my other cars installed it for me for $35.00.
There is a template for alignment on the trunk deck and the tech applied a rest preventive, the spoiled is painted at the factory the exact finish as the car,I am very pleased.

Anyone know how to determine if programming is the latest available, i.e., roads, routes are up to date?
With computer software like Microsoft it's fairly easy to determine the version.

The Red has a lot of metal flake and likely why it is more money. The white tricoat is likely as implied, three coats. Allowing dry time between coats probably slows production.
Also the White Diamond is not always the same. My Aurora was white diamond which is a brilliant white with just a slight blueish hue. And that is what seems to be what white diamond should be. The Aurora was also available in pearl white which has a nice appearance but after awhile it seems to look dirty quite frequently to many eyes. The pearl white was also available in some recent Buicks. I don't know if they had an excess of that paint left but in October the dealer had a fair inventory of Regal, Lacrosse, & Lucernne. The only ones listed as white diamond were Lacrosse, but they were not what I'm familiar as white diamond. They were the pearl and the salesmen had noticed it too. The other white vehicles were summit white. The true white diamond is more brilliant than summit white and I'd definitely prefer the white diamond over the summit especially if there is any chrome on the vehicle.
I just thought you should know if considering the white diamond that you might want to check which version of it you actually are getting.

#1486 of 2056 Chrome Plated Wheel Corroded
Mar 15, 2011 (11:19 am)
I bought 2010 CXL with Chrome Plated Wheels in March 2010, it looks very nice. After Minnesota winter 2010-2011, the chrome wheels appear to get corroded. I try to clean it up, but no luck. I did wash regularly one a month even during winter time to get rid of salt etc. but it still shows sign of corrosion.
1. Is this considered cover by warranty for corrosion
2. Do you experience the same thing after winter?
3. Any of you switch to alloy wheels because of this? If yes, it covers by warranty or do you pay extra?

Thanks - the email is on its way to you. Hopefully we can solve the problem but am happy with the car either way. I have lost track how many Buicks and other GM cars I have owned through the years but it started in the seventies and have no complaints. Right now I own 5 GM cars.

Funny you mention this. Last fall I had my OEM chrome wheels removed and replaced with my winter wheels and tires at the tire shop I use. The counter man mentioned that I was smart to do that, because they saw a lot of GM cars with chrome wheels that suffered from what he considered premature corrosion compared to other makes after use during the winter. He said it must be something about how they are made.
