it is a good PR ploy; Hyundai picked up some press coverage from several major news organizations, which is far cheaper than any advertising campaign out there. I seriously doubt Hyundai will get many claims under the program- once you've checked out the car, chances are you'll need it to drive to your new job anyways, unless your finances were so dire that you have to get out from a car payment ($300-$500 a month) in order to stay afloat. And I'm sure to some consumers facing job security issues it could be a decent motivator; if they were already considering trading cars but didn't want to because of security issues they might go out and get a Hyundai now, but then again, that crowd is a very, very, very small group and may not even buy a Hyundai in the first place...

If anything, I wouldn't want to be the owner of one of the reclaimed vehicles. My guess is it would not be properly maintained not cared for. This will probably worsen their resale value more than appreciate it.

It's no different than getting a car from a rental company. Hyundai seems to have an effective marketing plan. I won't buy a car because of this plan but evidently it resonated with a bunch of people. |
