I had the "service engine soon" code read by Auto Zone as 0440, Evaporative Emissions System. First, replaced gas cap. Have visually checked fuel lines and hoses for cracks-none seen. However, have not been able to do this on top of tank. Can this be done under the back seat on the '03 Park Ave? AZ said it would take something like 25 cold starts for this code to clear-is this correct? Appears to be more than fuel cap. Car won't pass state inspection plug-in evaluation with this problem. Sure would like to avoid expensive dealer work, if possible. Also, can anyone refer me to diagnostics for the Evaporative Emissions System on this car? Need location and tests for solenoids and sensors, please.
